Student Business of the Year Award

As part of Founder's Day, the 53rd Annual Student Business of the Year Award Finals will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012. SBYA is presented by the Babson College Alumni Association in recognition of an undergraduate student’s outstanding commitment to launching and operating a successful enterprise while pursuing an education.  First prize is $5,000, second prize $2,500, and third prize $1,000.  Finalists will also receive PR assistance from College Marketing and are eligible for business counseling by the Babson Alumni Supporting Entrepreneurs Team.

Key Dates:

March 2, 2012 - Submission deadline (12pm EST)

March 3-14, 2012 - Alumni evaluations

March 15, 2012 - Semifinalists announced

March 30, 2012 - Semifinalists deliverable deadline

April 4, 2012 - Semifinalists presentation to Alumni Committee

April 6, 2012 - Finalists announced

April 11, 2012 - Finalists deadline

April 18, 2012 - SBYA Finals (part of Founder's Day)

Award Criteria:
  • Originality-New, creative, inventive; a significant improvement on an existing concept

  • Success-The achievement of something attempted, financially or otherwise
  • Persistence-Holding firm and steadfastly to a purpose; achievement despite obstacles
  • Learning-Gaining knowledge, comprehension or mastery through experience
  • Character-Follows ethical business practices, provides value added to customers/industry, supports/represents the values and ideals of the Babson College community and their community at large
  • Describe the product or service offered.
