Denise Korn is the Creative Director of the new Lifestyle Brand Design Studio at Gensler. Established in 1965, Gensler is a leading global design, architecture and planning firm with 46 locations and more than 5,500 professionals networked across Asia, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and the Americas. Korn and her business partner since 1996, Javier Cortés, bring with them their team of seasoned designers and brand strategists, adding new expertise to Gensler’s global brand practice. Together, they previously led Korn Design, a firm founded by Korn 25 years ago, known for crafting innovative brands for hospitality, real estate and culture.
Now at Gensler, Korn and her team continue to work at the intersection of brand and experience strategy, brand integration, visual design, interior design, digital communications and lifestyle marketing.
Korn has worked with a wide range of clients including top-of-class developers, entrepreneurs, chefs, and institutional leaders, providing expert consultation on an equally wide range of assignments in the categories of leading hospitality, restaurants, luxury goods and ground-breaking strategic work. Korn Design cultivated holistic brands across the U.S. that are meaningful, distinctive and powerful -- such as Carpenter & Company, Daniel Boulud, Boston Properties, The Blackstone Group - LXR Luxury Resorts, Brookfield Property Group, Northeastern University, and Sage Hospitality.
Korn set up shop in Boston’s South End in 1992, after six years working as a designer, creative director and art director in New York City. Korn Design’s work has be recognized with awards from AIGA’s National Competition, Graphis, Print Magazine, HOW, American Corporate Identity, International Logos & Trademarks, and the Strathmore Graphics Gallery. Korn Design was awarded a prestigious James Beard Foundation medal for design in 2009 and was again nominated in 2010. Her work has been honored by The (B.O.N.E.) Best of New England Design Competition and the C.A.S.E. Association with two Gold Awards. Korn Design was selected as one of the top ten young firms in the U.S. by HOW Magazine (1998) and she was selected as one of Boston’s 40 Under 40 Business Leaders by the Boston Business Journal.
Actively involved in the political and civic life of greater Boston, Korn has served as the American Institute of Graphic Arts / Boston, Board Chair for Business Outreach, creating forums to connect business leaders and innovators to discuss the role of design communications and its value in smart business practices. In 2003, Korn founded YOUTH DESIGN, an urban youth program connecting talented urban high school students to career opportunities in design through professional mentorships. In 2012 she was presented the Fellow Award from AIGA for her contributions to raising the standards of industry excellence, and her impact as a champion of diversity and advocate for youth. She is honored to be a Senior Fellow in Social Innovation at Babson College’s Lewis Institute and was recently appointed by Massachusetts Governor Charles Baker to the Board of Trustees at Massachusetts College of Art & Design.
