Bio

Michael L Fetters, Walter Carpenter Distinguished Professor and Professor of Accounting at Babson College was Babson College’s first Provost and served as chairperson of the Accounting and Law Division. He was on the faculty team that designed and launched the innovative, integrated entrepreneurial MBA program, and on the design and launch team for the integrated undergraduate program. In addition, he designed and directed the MS in Strategic Cost Accounting Program for Lucent Technologies and designed and is teaching in Babson’s distance learning, blended MBA program. Currently Dr. Fetters is Director on Babson’s National Curriculum Design and Launch team for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative as well as on the Curriculum Design and Launch team for the second version of the international, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Program.. He has been selected twice by the graduate students as the Thomas Kennedy Professor of the Year. He has also won the college’s prestigious Walter H. Carpenter Award for Exceptional Contributions to Babson College. Dr. Fetters consults in the areas of entrepreneurship ecosystem development, strategic planning and financial data interpretation, pedagogical design and executive education. Currently his clients include many small businesses in a wide variety of industries from restaurants to healthcare delivery. He has published numerous articles and book chapters as well as presented nationally and internationally on the topics: entrepreneurship ecosystems, financial statement analysis, women in professions, curriculum innovation, technology-enhanced learning, and pedagogical research. The Development of University-Based Entrepreneurship Ecosystems: Global Studies with Rice, Greene & Butler was published in September, 2010. The textbook, Financial Statements: Construction, Analysis and Forecasts, 2e with Halsey & Soybel was published in August, 2015. Currently, Dr. Fetters serves on several advisory boards for new ventures as well as on the Academic Advisory Board of Shanghai Tech University, School of Entrepreneurship and Management, Shanghai, China. Dr. Fetters holds a Ph.D. in Business and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his B.S. from Ohio State University and is a CPA.​
