Somerville overnight starting on Friday, October 4th

Babson student business College Outside and Babson alum business Brooklyn Boulders Somerville are pleased to announce the Collegiate Grand Opening of the new Brooklyn Boulders Somerville Facility and subsequently their largest event of Fall 2013.

On Friday, October 4th the college community of Boston will come together to max out the capacity of the 40,000 square foot facility, climbers and non-climbers alike, to experience everything the climbing community has to offer. Over 600 students will come to climb and play hard through the night (9pm to 9am) with activities including climbing competitions, yoga classes, movie screenings, scavenger hunts, dodge ball and a black light dance experience, all topped off with sponsorship from adidas Outdoor, Osprey, and the American Alpine Club (AAC)with support from local brands like Life is Good, UNREAL Candy and NEMO Equipment. College Outside and the Brooklyn Boulders Somerville teams would like to invite the press to join them at any time during the scheduled hours of the overnight event for free tours, free food, and free climbing.

With college semesters beginning in “the college capital of the US,” Brooklyn Boulders Somerville has partnered with College Outside to celebrate their opening with the vast student population. College Outside is a new, Boston based, student-led startup that plans, promotes, and executes events, sponsorships, promotions, and gear testing to create brand loyalties among the college demographic for outdoor brands. They work directly with the leaders of college outing clubs like the Tufts Mountain Club and the Harvard Outing Club.

“Enjoyment of the outdoors is one of the most universal bonds out there,” says College Outside Co-Founder, Joshua Bennett. “Sharing that bond across collegiate borders to kick-off the new semester while also celebrating the opening of a new space that creates such a creative community is very exciting.”

Brooklyn Boulders Somerville opened their facility with a four day celebration from July 31st to August 3rd after beginning construction back in June of 2012. Located at 12A Tyler Street in Somerville, Massachusetts, the gym is a new type of community space that blends state-of-the-art climbing terrain with art, culture, music, and entrepreneurship. Building off of their experience creating a vibrant, creative culture at their facility in Brooklyn, NY, Brooklyn Boulders mission is to provide inspiring experiences to our community members through engaging amenities, refreshing programming, and strategic partnerships with local area businesses and organizations.

“From the beginning, this night was designed to bring students from all walks of life and all different Universities together for an event the size and scope of which has yet to be seen in the Greater Boston area,” said Brooklyn Boulders Marketing Coordinator, Nick DiBella, “we are very excited to work with College Outside to encourage collegiate students to respect and enjoy the sports and the community that the outdoor industry has to offer.”

The Collegiate Grand Opening of Brooklyn Boulders Somerville is going to be the largest event of Fall 2013 in the new facility and would like to share it with the press. Join them anytime from Friday, October 4th at 9pm to Saturday, October 5th at 9am for free tours, free food, and free climbing. Media: josh@collegeoutside.com
