The Allele Fund (“Allele”) announces today that Dr. Kerry Murphy Healey, President of Babson College, has joined its Advisory Board.
Dr. Healey is internationally recognized for her nearly three decades of service in academia, government, and humanitarian work both in the United States and overseas. She took office as Babson College president on July 1, 2013.
Serving with distinction as the 70th lieutenant governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, Healey worked to lead, enact, and implement a wide range of policy and legislative initiatives for the Romney-Healey administration. A highlight was partnering with Governor Romney as part of a bi-partisan effort to craft Massachusetts’ first-in-the-nation health care-reform legislation. The reforms seamlessly blended the state’s public and private health care systems, extended coverage to 98% of the population and utilized market forces and competition to control costs.
In 2008, Healey was appointed as a founding member of the Executive Committee of the U.S. State Department’s Public-Private Partnership for Justice Reform in Afghanistan (PJRA), and has led numerous philanthropic initiatives both in the United States and abroad. She also serves as co-chairman of the Parity Project, a bipartisan effort to promote the election and appointment of women to high-level government offices.
Prior to her public service, Healey worked for more than a decade as a public policy consultant to the United States Department of Justice for Cambridge-based think tank Abt Associates. Her research and published work focused on gang violence, drug abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence.
Healey earned her AB in government from Harvard College and her PhD in political science and law from Trinity College, Dublin. She has been a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics and Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership.
