Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Babson President Kerry Healey support young volunteers
Lemonade Day Boston held a number of events this week to prepare the city's youth for the May 3rd program that teaches thousands of Boston young people how to operate their own business using a lemonade stand.
Babson College is once again championing Lemonade Day Boston as part of a national initiative to instill fundamental lessons about life, success and personal achievement.
On April 23rd, Babson President Kerry Healey and Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh encouraged young volunteers at the Build-a-Stand Workshop sponsored by The New England Regional Council of Carpenters at The New England Carpenters Training Facility in Dorchester. Skilled workers and entrepreneurs coached the children in the design and construction of their lemonade stands.
The Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) held a special workshop at the Reggie Lewis Arena on April 22nd to inspire young girls. Participants learned about entrepreneurship and the skills required to be successful, while giving back to their communities. On April 25th at Fenway Park, The Red Sox Foundation hosted volunteers from Babson, Brightcove, and Goodwin Procter LLP to help more than 50 Red Sox Scholars develop business plans for their lemonade ventures.
About Lemonade Day Boston
Now in its 4th year, Lemonade Day Boston will involve thousands of Boston students from Allston, Dorchester, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury, and beyond, thanks to Babson, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and more than 40 area companies, foundations, agencies and philanthropists. Assisting, teaching, and supporting the children will be an army of partner organizations, educators, mentors, community organizations, businesses and schools. The foremost objective of Lemonade Day is to empower youth to take ownership of their lives and become productive members of society – the business leaders, social advocates, volunteers, and forward thinking citizens of tomorrow. Lemonade Day Boston will be held throughout the City of Boston on Saturday May 3, 2014.
