Babson College Hosts Annual Spring Concert at 7 p.m. April 12th
Babson College will host a Spring Concert on Friday, April 12th at 7 p.m. in the Caroling-Sorenson Theater with performances from the Babson Olin Jazz Band, Wellesley BlueJazz Big Band, BlueJazz Strings, BlueJazz Combo, OCO, and a surprise vocal group. Babson-Olin Jazz Ensemble
Under the direction Joe Brogan, a recording saxophonist for Disney, and an alum of Berklee College of Music, the Babson-Olin Jazz Band will be performing a mix of jazz standards and Latin classics featuring individual students for solos. This band is known to keep your foot tapping and your fingers snapping, with tunes such as “Spain” that are fun and exciting!
Wellesley BlueJazz Big Band
Led by Cercie Miller, founder of her own professional quartet, the Cercie Miller Quartet, member of Girls' Night Out, a headlining pop-rock band, and recording artist with influential musicians Patty Larkin, Didi Stewart, and Lisa Thorson, the Wellesley BlueJazz Big Band performs a rich jazz repertoire which encourages development and fluency in jazz improvisation.
Wellesley BlueJazz Combos
Directed by Paula Zeitlin, a well-known teacher of jazz violin and viola improvisation, performer and founder of the Paula Zeitlin Quintet, and graduate of Berklee, the Wellesley BlueJazz Combo Program provides students with the opportunity to develop improvisation and ensemble skills in a small group setting. The all-strings combo, BlueJazz Strings, perform rock, Latin and jazz. The BlueJazz Combo features originals, contemporary and classic jazz repertoire.
Olin Conductorless Orchestra
Olin Professor Diana Dabby leads the Olin Conductorless Orchestra with experience as concert pianist and soloist of New York's Weill (Carnegie) Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Hungary, and Hong Kong, as well as chamber musician, and composer for Boston's Jordan Hall, Symphony Hall, and Tanglewood, The Olin Conductorless Orchestra is an ensemble minus conductor featuring instrumentalists in leadership and collaborative roles. Be amazed as this group performs utilizing interdependent teamwork to keep a steady beat and create beautiful sounds.
