International Education Week

November 4-8, 2013

Women and Education on a Global Scale
International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This annual initiative promotes international understanding and builds support for international education and exchange. IEW encourages programs that prepare citizens to live and work in a global environment. This joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education is celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide. Here at Babson, International Education Week is recognized as an important part of our identity. It is an opportunity to share our individual and collective culture. This year we mark our 9th year of participation in the celebration of International Education Week.

    International Education Week 2013
(Women and Education on a Global Scale)
    presents GIRL RISING

Girl Rising is a global campaign to educate and empower girls—working to create a
ripple effect that will transform communities for generations.

At the center of the Girl Rising campaign is an innovative feature film of the same name,
which journeys around the globe to witness the strength of the human spirit and the
power of education to change the world. From Academy Award-nominated director
Richard E. Robbins, Girl Rising spotlights the stories of unforgettable girls born into
unforgiving circumstances. It captures their dreams, their voices, and their remarkable
    lives.

By sharing their personal journeys, the girls of Girl Rising become our teachers. As one
of them says, “I feel as though I have power…I can do anything. And I have
important things to do.” Research shows that investing in girls can transform families,
communities, and nations. The girls of Girl Rising show us how.

For more information on this film, visit the Girl Rising website.

Stop by the Ten Thousand Villages Festival Sale on Thursday, November 7th between 10am - 4pm in Reynolds Campus Center!

"By giving artisans the opportunity for a sustainable income, it makes them less vulnerable and susceptible to unfavorable circumstances such as trafficking. Many of the artisans are able to provide education for their children, including their daughters. We have heard incredible stories of daughters going on to be doctors or lawyers, thus stopping the poverty cycle. So while the products you may receive at the Festival Sale may have been made by a man, the impact on man, and woman alike, is truly amazing."
