July 1, 2008
Dear Members of the Babson Community:
July 1 has arrived—my first day on the job as Babson's 12th president.
I've had the opportunity during the past six months to meet many of you—and it has been a great listening and learning experience for me. There are very few times in someone's life when you actually have the benefit of being in a community for this length of time without any overt responsibilities. Before I arrived on campus, I said that I thought this opportunity for getting to know the community well in advance of assuming my new role was a gift—and it really has been a gift.
I want to express special thanks to those of you who have shared your thoughts with me about Babson's future. You have given me a much-appreciated head start in gaining an in-depth understanding of this extraordinary school. I'm really looking forward to more of your ideas and suggestions and to hearing from everyone in the community. E-mail, office visits, and phone calls are just a few of the ways we can connect and—hopefully—connect often.
This summer, I'll be working on a paper which will focus on an agenda for the College, derived from the conversations I've had, and continue to have, with many of you. At the start of the fall semester, I'll distribute this paper to the broader community, on and off campus. It will be important to get your feedback, hear your views, and begin a robust conversation on our short-term and long-term priorities.
Thank you again for everything you've done and everything you continue to do for the College. I can't tell you how excited I am about the work that we can do together to make this great school even greater.
