The Babson Community Remembers 9/11

As we approach the 10th anniversary of 9/11, it is an important time to reflect on the lasting impact it has had on our lives. The date is indelible in our minds and in our hearts—each of us remembers where we were when we learned the horrific news. It changed our world in so many ways—and it has not been the same ever since.

Wherever we were on that day, we learned that a large part of the healing process was coming together with others for mutual support. Although I was not at Babson at the time, I know that our community experienced the loss of its own. Three alumni died during the events of 9/11—Gordon M. Aamoth, Jr. ’92, Neilie A. Casey M’02, and Erik H. Ibrandtsen ’94—and we want to take this opportunity to remember them and to honor their lives.

This weekend Babson has scheduled two events in service and remembrance of those who died on 9/11. On Saturday, 30 Weisman and Bernon Center Scholars will participate in renovation projects at the Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore. On Sunday, we will hold a special multifaith service on campus. I invite you to join us at the Glavin Chapel at 7 p.m. on Sunday for a “Light up the Night” service as we remember a day that touched us all so deeply. A candlelight vigil at the Upper Fields will follow.

On a personal note, I am proud to be leading a community that responds to the unexpected with a sense of purpose and a spirit of resilience—working together, as colleagues and friends, to build a better world.
