I was completely clueless on which career I wanted after college. I knew the skill set I wanted to develop but didn’t yet know how I wanted to apply it. So, I always knew I would go back to school at some point, but I didn’t know what that program would look like. Thankfully, I quickly discovered a passion for investment management. When it came time to invest in my career, I turned to Babson to help me fill in some of the educational blanks I felt I had. Babson was a great place to learn the theory I was missing and develop experience I could leverage into a position managing portfolios.
Wisdom That Influenced Me
“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson
What Attracted Me to the Finance/Investments Sector
Every job I’ve ever had focused on helping people in some way, and I’ve come to realize that this is what really motivates me. I’m not sure there is much more sacred than handling other people’s money. I live in a world of basis points, but it’s much more than that: it’s livelihoods and futures we are managing, so if I can add any value along the way, it’s a very thrilling impact to be able to have.
How the Finance Division/Cutler Center Helped Me Achieve My Goals
The Finance Division gave me the educational tools I needed in order to speak the language of the industry. However, it was the Cutler Center that really minimized my opportunity cost of postponing my career to return to school for two years. The financial crisis ignited during my participation in the Babson College Fund and this gave me an opportunity to be at the helm of a ship during that storm which turned out to be absolutely invaluable to my interview process post-graduation.
What You Need to Know about Babson
Babson is not just about developing a new business, but more so about developing a new framework with which to think. It’s the only place I’ve ever been where a professor calling a student disruptive is actually a compliment.
My Proudest Moment in Business
The first time I was able to take an original investment idea and push it through the process to influence the decision makers, and knowing that I owned a little piece of our performance—that made me the most proud. It didn’t do much for my sleep that night, but it felt great to finally be a contributor.
My Personal Brand
I am committed to helping those who are in search of value and creative ways of solving problems.
How I Define Entrepreneurship
Most great ideas are initially met with distain. Entrepreneurship is the unrelenting spirit within that can transcend the negativity of the shortsighted consensus and persevere to execution.
