Why did you choose Babson for your graduate education?
My dad graduated from the Evening MBA program in 2000, and he’s been a huge proponent of Babson for as long as I can remember. When I was considering grad school, I knew Babson would give me the education, opportunities, and network to move forward quickly and effectively in my career. I’m so happy I did, because I met some of my best friends during my time at Babson, and now I’m a young Latin woman in technology in Boston, and learning so much every day. Without my Babson education, I wouldn’t have been exposed to the Boston tech scene or the management skills to succeed in this industry.
As a student, what did you do when not in class?
I was vice president, MS Programs in Graduate Student Council. This club provided me the opportunity to network with other students at Babson, as well as hone in on professional skills like project management, event planning, and budgeting.
What was your favorite part of the Babson student experience?
I was learning from incredibly intelligent, articulate, and ambitious peers every day. Getting a global perspective on business issues from my classmates enhanced the curriculum tremendously. Our nine-month program went by so fast, and now I have successful friends all over the world.
How has Babson helped you develop your career?
A couple of things that I’m grateful I learned at Babson that I use every day in my career: First, the absolute importance of focusing on customers. Keeping customers interested and happy is critical to an organization’s success. It’s not all about the profit or loss or expenses, etc., but rather the value that the customer perceives from the business offering that makes or breaks a company. Good business isn’t single-minded or selfish—it seeks to serve the vendor, the customer, and hopefully the greater good. Second, the group projects and presentations at Babson really encouraged me to hone in on my public speaking skills and learn how to effectively collaborate with peers from all over the world. We have to do this as professionals every day and I’m so glad I got to practice these skills at school. I feel like I have an advantage professionally because of what I learned at Babson.
