About Us

RecycleMania PosterIn 2010, Babson recognized that additional resources and expertise would be needed to achieve our objective of becoming a leader in campus sustainability.

Babson engaged GreenerU, Inc. - an innovative higher education-focused sustainability and energy services company - to assist in establishing and operating our first dedicated Sustainability Office. The office is located prominently in the Reynolds Campus Center and it serves as the nexus of sustainability on campus. The office serves the following functions:

  • Connects sustainability activities and programs around campus into a unified program.

  • Communicates within the Babson community about sustainability activities on and off campus, with particular focus on sharing infrastructure and operational improvements with the community.

  • Helps students, staff and faculty develop and deploy sustainability projects and programs
  • Develops and deploys programs that improve or enhance the sustainability of the Babson campus.
  • Tracks key performance metrics and progress and reports to external evaluations in order to showcase Babson sustainability and reveal opportunities.

The Sustainability Office runs or coordinates the following programs, which you can read more about in the Involvement sections of "Green Campus."

  • Student Eco Reps
  • Staff Eco Leaders
  • Sustainability Fair
  • Advancing Babson Sustainability Task Forces
  • Sustainability Tracking, Rating & Assessment System (STARS)

In addition, the Sustainability team coordinates and implements sustainability related campaigns each year. Here are some campaigns we have run or are currently running:

Environmental Action Workshop Series: Organized, structured workshops for students and staff on becoming environmental change agents on campus.

Campus-Wide Eco Challenges: Mini behavior challenges designed to raise awareness and increase sustainability participation. Example include the Zero Waste Challenge and the Unplugged Challenge.

Eco Reps Directed Campaign: A campaign designed and implemented by the Babson EcoReps and guided by the Sustainability Office. This campaign is targeted at changing a behavior on campus that will impact environmental sustainability or institutionalizing sustainability in the Babson campus and culture.
