Finding Beauty in Entrepreneurship

“At Babson I feel invincible. I am surrounded by people who are always there to support you and inspire you to be the person you want to become.”

“The night of my high school graduation, my aunt gave me a bracelet that said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” It was fitting—since I was a young child, I have always dreamed big.

I knew I had a passion for beauty when I was 2 years old and I would experiment with my mother’s makeup. That passion has only grown in the past 20 years, which is why I’m starting BeautyBar by B.Lo, my own makeup company.

“Hoping to expand my startup cosmetics company, I chose Babson not only because of its phenomenal reputation for entrepreneurship, but because of the people. Babson’s staff members, professors, and students have empowered me in countless of ways and helped me grow into the woman I’ve always strived to be. The opportunities here are endless—I would have never been able to get my business off the ground if I did not have the support I received here at Babson.

“My experiences at Babson have allowed me to broaden my perspective on beauty, fashion, and marketing. I spent a semester abroad in Paris, France, and took courses in business, art history, and luxury brand marketing. After I returned from Paris, I spent the summer as a marketing intern with the Taste of L'Oreal Internship Program, which led to a full-time job offer. I’m also a Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL) Scholar, a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and a participant in the Women Innovating Now (WIN) Lab.

Making Connections

Amy also taught a Senior-Led Seminar »

“Currently, I’m teaching a Senior-Led Seminar: Marketing Beauty and Fashion from an Ethical Standpoint. The class considers the nature of luxury and the social and ethical implications attached to different companies within the luxury brand sector. It was inspired by a luxury brand marketing class I took during my fall semester abroad in Paris, and gives me a great opportunity to share my beauty industry insights and experiences with others who share my passion. I think it says a lot about the population at Babson that, although I am considered the teacher for this course, I am learning so much from the kids in my class that I feel like a student much of the time!”
