Parents Grateful for Son’s Babson Experience
The Gorters and son Christopher ’10, then a prospective student, had just begun a Babson tour when the lightbulb went on. “Within 15 minutes of the start of the tour, Chris told us that Babson was the place he wanted to be,” says his mom, Lauren. “As a parent, you’re so happy to see your child connect with a school.”
The Gorters say that Christopher’s Babson experience definitely lived up to his expectations. Christopher raved about his course work and inspiring professors. He broadened his perspective on a study-abroad trip to Barcelona and made close friendships with the students in his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. “Babson allowed Chris to eat, sleep, and breathe business and dive deep into a subject he really loves,” says his dad, David. Christopher now works for Aurora Investment Management in Chicago and is approaching his new position with the entrepreneurial drive and curiosity that Babson instilled in him.
Christopher’s positive Babson experience is just one of the reasons the Gorters decided to support the College. “We did it to express our gratitude for Chris’ experience and help ensure a great Babson experience for future students,” Lauren says. “We also did it to encourage fellow parents to give.”
David explains that he and his wife understand the important role that fundraising plays in private education. “A school can have the greatest ideas in the world, but if it can’t afford to implement them, what good does that do? We believe in Babson and want to help move it forward. Obviously, alumni and friends support the school, but parents play an important role, too.”
