Study Abroad in Business School with Babson

According to the Institute of International Education, the study abroad experience helps students develop marketable skills (such as language-learning and communication) and make key career decisions. Plus, it catches the eye of employers and recruiters, especially for young professionals.

Not only do you get to experience a whole new slice of the world when you go abroad, but you get to discover a whole new side of yourself. Globalization is a part of every profession and knowing more about the world and how you fit into it only sets you up for success.

You can’t be a successful entrepreneurial leader without a global mindset. We are an interconnected world. It is so important to have the skills to navigate across different cultural experiences. Those skills are very important to our graduates.

Senior Director of International Education at Babson College

We know it’s important for our students to have options. Babson students can spend a semester, academic year, or a summer living and learning in another country. We offer short-term programs, on-campus options, and professional consulting opportunities. Our Centers and Institutes also offer international opportunities for our students.

The best part of studying abroad with us is our global partners, who let us offer options that fit into your schedule and academic needs. Come see the world with us!

Semester and Year-long Options

Most Babson students go abroad for a semester, though summer, year-round, and shorter options are available. With over 40 countries to choose from, you can find the program that piques your specific interests. You can discover the culture of Vienna and learn about management in Singapore. You can study at the renowned London School of Economics and take a class on K-Pop in Seoul. You can eat pasta in Italy and play board games with your host family in Denmark.

Going abroad as a student is one of the best times to visit another country! This experience shows you independence, but provides you with resources in the case you need them. As someone who hasn’t gotten the chance to travel much, this was the best decision I could’ve made.

Explore the options available to you with our abroad search functionality and start picturing yourself in another country. Our team at the Glavin Office of International Education will help you plan out the timing and finances and ensure you are earning the credits you need to stay on track academically. We offer information sessions throughout the year, and you can chat with an education abroad peer advisor to answer any questions.

You may be able to apply your financial aid to your time abroad as well to help with the tuition and travel costs. Your Student Financial Services counselor will help you review your eligibility before you make your decision.

International Consulting Experience

Alternatively, you can take the International Consulting Experience elective course to hone your consulting skills on an international consulting project. Your experience starts with traveling to meet an international client and immersing yourself in a foreign business landscape for about seven to 10 days.

You will then return to campus and spend the semester with your team completing the project, giving you the chance to develop your research skills and present to an international client—an experience you’ll talk about in job interviews for years to come.

Go Abroad During Your Academic Breaks

Don’t want to be away from campus for an extended period? You can take one of our Electives Abroad during your semester breaks. These course options allow you to earn credits while traveling and getting to know a new country and group of classmates in between your regular classes. You will move beyond the typical tourist experience with faculty-curated cultural tours, conversations with global business leaders, collaboration with students at international universities, and connections with global alumni networks.

Our options fall under Entrepreneurship, Political Impact on Culture, Brand Management, Creativity and Collaboration, Social Responsibility, and Start Up/International Strategy courses and are usually tailored to the culture and intricacies of the country you are visiting. It’s a chance to learn what entrepreneurship, management, and communication means in a different country—and to build connections you will use throughout your professional life.

Additionally, the Office of Service and Justice Programs sponsors service immersion trips during the College’s winter and spring breaks. These noncredit trips are opportunities for you to engage in an intensive service experience with communities in need, to promote civic engagement, and to develop your leadership abilities.

Global Opportunities On Campus and After Graduation

A global experience in business school doesn’t always mean going abroad. You can take various courses at Babson that allow you to complete your degree and discover a new culture in the process, including those in the Global Business Management, Social and Cultural Studies, and International Business Environment concentrations and language and arts courses in our Humanities department.

Glavin Global Fellows (GGF) Program

The Glavin Global Fellows (GGF) program welcomes students interested in expanding their global education in a focused course of independent study. It’s a community of undergraduate students who are passionate about global issues, language study, and international experiences on campus and beyond. The program allows students to integrate their Babson business and liberal arts education with international studies and offers on-campus events and networking.

Members of the program have the opportunity to earn a Glavin Global Fellows digital badge over their four years at Babson. We’ve designed the badge program so you develop and apply global competencies that prepare you to be entrepreneurial leaders with a global mindset. If you’re part of GGF, you are not required to participate in the badge program.

First-year students in this program also can live in the Glavin Global Fellows Living Learning Community, which is one of the unique and close-knit learning community options for Babson students.

Fulbright Scholar Program

After Babson, our students go on to varied, great things, including continuing their education. As you prepare to graduate, you may be interested in the Fulbright Scholar Program to pursue specific research interests.
