Survey:
This study presents some findings from a survey among 221 entrepreneurs and 249 corporate employees in Japan. A questionnaire was developed to identify three major experiences during their elementary and secondary school ages, which were considered to be necessary to form a mental image of an entrepreneur . Three experiences were examined: (1) role model played by their parents, (2) pseudo-entrepreneurial experiences, and (3) extraordinary personal experiences.
We carried out discriminant analysis using two group variables: (1) entrepreneurs and corporate employees, and (2) among corporate employees, those who aspire to become entrepreneurs and those who do not. Our study showed the particular importance of the childhood pseudo-entrepreneurial experience in forming the image of an entrepreneur.
