ABSTRACT
This paper examines whether socio–cultural dimensions in different countries affect the likelihood that individuals in those countries will be interested in starting a business. Four socio–cultural dimensions were examined : the social status of entrepreneurship, the degree to which innovation is valued, the extent to which business failure brings shame to the owner, and the importance of work. In a seven–country sample of 861 MBA students, results indicated that the social status of entrepreneurship is a consistently good predictor of interest in starting a business.
