Graduation Information

The 2013 Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 18.

Commencement Walker Form (for students graduating August 2013)

Babson certifies degrees and certificates three times each year: May, August, and December. Below is information on graduate degree and certificate requirements, graduation requirements, and honors. More information on the May Commencement ceremony is available on the Commencement website.

Degree and Certificate Requirements

A degree or certificate will be granted to a student in the semester in which all academic course requirements have been met and where the student is in good standing in all respects. Any course work completed after the semester in which a student earns his or her degree or certificate will be considered post-graduate work.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Students must complete all degree requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 55 credits in the Evening, One-Year, or Two-Year Programs, or a minimum of 46 credits in the Fast Track Program. All students must attain a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average on all credit earned at Babson, based on a 4.00 scale.

Master of Science in Accounting (MSA)

Students must complete all degree requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 30 credits and attaining a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average on all credit earned at Babson, based on a 4.00 scale.

Certificate in Advanced Management (CAM)/Certificate in Advanced Management in Entrepreneurship (CAM-E)

Students must complete all certificate requirements, including successfully earning 15 credits of elective coursework and attaining a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, based on a 4.00 scale.

Graduation Requirements

May Graduates

May graduates must complete all degree or certificate requirements by 4:30 p.m. on the Tuesday before commencement.
May graduates must complete an Application for Degree. The application for degree allows students to enter the name they want printed on their diploma, the phonetic spelling of their name, and their anticipated graduation date. The application for degree closes approximately two weeks before the day of the May commencement ceremony. If the application is not completed by the deadline, the name on the diploma will be printed exactly as it appears on the student’s academic record. The Application for Degree is located in Portal under the Smart Tools section. If the Smart Tools section does not appear on Portal, drill down on Add Content located in the upper left corner of Portal (next to where it says Hello, Name!). Click Add under the Smart Tools section. If the Smart Tools section still does not appear, contact Support at 781-239-4357.
May graduates need to complete the Commencement Clearance Process (CCP). The CCP is an application site that allows degree and certificate candidates to view and complete the requirements necessary to pick up their cap and gown. Requirements include fulfilling financial obligations and completing college surveys. This site will be made available to degree and certificate candidates approximately two weeks before commencement. More information about the CCP will be sent via email from the Office of Special Events in the weeks leading up to commencement.
May graduates must also make sure their mailing address is up-to-date. To update or verify a mailing address, log into Portal and click My Info/View My Profile from the top toolbar. Select Mailing Address under the Edit My Info section on the left side of the page. Edit the fields as needed and then click Save Mailing Address.
Any students who have outstanding obligations with the college, such as financial obligations, will not receive their diploma until these obligations are cleared.
The official graduation date for May graduates is the date of the May commencement ceremony.

August Graduates

August graduates must complete all degree or certificate requirements by August 31st.
Students must complete an Application for Degree. This must be done no later than August 31st. If the application is not completed by the deadline, the name on the diploma will be printed exactly as it appears on the student’s academic record. Diplomas are mailed at the end of September to the student’s current mailing address on file. It is very important for students to make sure their mailing address is up-to-date. Probable August graduates may participate in the preceding May commencement ceremony as walkers. Students must register, pay for, and plan to complete their remaining degree or certificate requirements over the summer sessions. Only coursework that can be completed and graded prior to August 31st can be considered. At the commencement ceremony, walkers wear the full academic regalia, are seated together with the previous year’s August and December graduates and the current year’s May graduates, have their names announced, and receive a diploma case (blank) on stage. Probable August graduates who choose to participate in the May commencement ceremony must complete and return a Commencement Walker Form by the deadline listed on the form. Walkers must also complete the Commencement Clearance Process (CCP) and the Application For Degree. The CCP is an application site that allows walkers to view and complete the requirements necessary to pick up their cap and gown. This site will open approximately two weeks before commencement. Walkers do not have access to the CCP until the Registrar’s Office has received a completed walker form.

August graduates are also invited to participate in the subsequent May commencement ceremony and must complete the Commencement Clearance Process (CCP) at that time. More information about the CCP will be sent via email from the Office of Special Events in the weeks leading up to the ceremony.

December Graduates

Honors

The current graduate honors ranges are:
Summa Cum Laude: Students with top 5% highest GPAs by program within the academic year.
Magna Cum Laude: Students with next 10% highest GPAs by program within the academic year.
Cum Laude: Students with next 10% highest GPAs by program within the academic year.
Latin honors are calculated in May of each year. The awards are based on cumulative grade point averages (GPAs) of all graduates by program from within the current academic year (August/September, December, and May graduates). Program is defined as students enrolled in the One-Year MBA, Two-Year MBA, Fast Track MBA, Evening MBA, or MS programs. Babson does not release the specific GPA cutoff information. Honors are not printed on diplomas, but are printed on transcripts. Students who receive honors are sent a letter and updated transcript via postal mail.
