Sir Richard Branson Visits Babson’s New Enterprising Family Program with Teens and Their Parents

Branson and Diego Lowenstein ‘90 encourage an entrepreneurial mindset for life and business success

Sir Richard Branson joined Diego Lowenstein ’90, CEO of Lionstone Development, and Babson President Kerry Healey on July 27, 2015 to kick-off a week of Entrepreneurial Thought and Action® with 20 enthusiastic parents and teens involved in Babson’s Enterprising Family Program.

Through the vision and generosity of Diego Lowenstein, the Enterprising Family was designed to be a transformational educational opportunity for an international group of accomplished entrepreneurial parents and young-adult sons and daughters. This new Babson Executive and Enterprise Education program focuses on how entrepreneurship can be applied in participants’ companies, families, and individual journeys, and is meant to serve as a fun learning and bonding experience for all.

“I offer special thanks to Diego for his extraordinary vision and commitment to create The Enterprising Family program, to our Babson faculty members led by Professor Matt Allen, and of course to Sir Richard Branson, the quintessential entrepreneur of all kinds,” said President Healey. “We’re so proud of his connection to Babson, which stretches back to 1996 when he was inducted into our Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs, and of his influence in becoming one of the world’s most impactful humanitarians.”

During his visit, Richard Branson shared his entrepreneurial experiences with the teenagers in attendance, many of which were around the same age Branson was when he started his very first venture. He also encouraged philanthropy, told stories of how his mother served as his role model, and asked participants to share their own experiences and ideas.

“One of the most important aspects of being an entrepreneur is to surround yourself with great people,” advised Richard Branson. “Life is better when you look for the best in other people. [Do this] and then give them the freedom to do great things.”

Throughout the week, both parents and teens had the opportunity to develop as entrepreneurial leaders, with an opportunity-focused perspective on the future, through self-assessment, idea sharing, social activities, and cross-generational communications.
