Babson College Inducts Alumnus and Renowned Entrepreneur C. Dean Metropoulos into Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs®

Metropoulos will be recognized for Entrepreneurial Thought & Action in building, restructuring, and growing businesses all around the world

C. Dean MetropoulosC. Dean Metropoulos ’67 MBA’68, well-known entrepreneur and leader of his family business, Metropoulos & Co., will be inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs® at Babson College on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Established in 1978, the Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs is the world’s first entrepreneurship hall of fame. It includes more than 100 notable business figures such as Robert Kraft H’02, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the Kraft Group; Ray A. Kroc, former CEO of McDonalds; Richard Branson, Chairman of the Virgin Group; and Steve Forbes, President and Chief Executive Officer of Forbes. Most recently inducted were Care.com Founder Sheila Lirio Marcelo, and TripAdvisor Co-Founder and CEO Stephen Kaufer

Along with his two sons, Evan and Daren, Dean leads the highly reputable investment firm, Metropoulos & Co. Metropoulos & Co. has invested individually as well as with major private equity firms and sovereign funds in the acquisition and unique transformation of approximately 80 businesses around the world, having earned some of the leading returns on Wall Street.

C. Dean Metropoulos ’67 MBA’68

C. Dean Metropoulos’ early career was with GTE International, initially as CFO of Europe, Middle East, and Africa and subsequently as the company’s youngest Senior Vice President/CFO of its International Business, including Telecommunications, Home Entertainment, Lighting, and Precision Materials. GTE operated in every continent, often in partnership with local governments (telecom) and local businesses, as well as through its own operations. Metropoulos attributes the differentiated and respected investment and management skills, widely identified with Metropoulos & Co., to his early international career and to Babson College’s excellent entrepreneurial education.

Metropoulos & Co., a boutique acquisition and management firm started by C. Dean Metropoulos and later joined by his sons, Evan and Daren, has been involved in building, restructuring, and growing numerous businesses in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. Many of these were subsequently taken public or sold to strategic corporations or other private equity firms.

Dean Metropoulos and his wife, Marianne, of 40 years, have two sons, Evan and Daren, who are an integral part of Metropoulos & Co.
