Babson’s Women Innovating Now (WIN) Lab® Boston Hosts Breakthrough Women’s Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition

May 3 season finale event featured keynote from ZappRX CEO Zoe Barry, a startup showcase, and a pitch competition for $8,000 in cash prizes

WIN Lab Boston Babson College’s Women Innovating Now (WIN) Lab®—a venture accelerator specifically for women entrepreneurs—hosted a pitch competition on Wednesday, May 3 to showcase its current cohort and celebrate women’s entrepreneurship in the City of Boston.

All were invited to witness three high-potential WIN Lab® participants from Own The Boardoom, Wanderful, and Loveleaf Co. compete for $5,000, $2,500, and $500 in cash prizes, and learn more about WIN Lab entrepreneurs (pdf) as part of an in-event startup showcase.

Erica Zahka, CEO of Own The Boardroom, came in first place, Beth Santos, CEO of Wanderful, came in second place, and Ally Milligan, CEO of Loveleaf, won the third place prize. 

The event began with a keynote from Zoe Barry—CEO of ZappRx, who was named both to Inc.’s 2015 30 under 30 list, and LinkedIn’s ‘Next Wave Top Professionals 35 & Under’ list. Immediately following, three founders from the program pitched their products and field questions from four esteemed judges:

  • Smaiyra Million—Founder, soaVentures and Operating Partner, Highland Consumer Fund
  • David Chang—Entrepreneur and Angel Investor
  • Sharon Kan—CEO and Co-Founder, Pepperlane
  • Patty Forde—Executive Committee, Women’s Enterprise Initiative and HR Consultant

Light food was served and two local startups—Brazo Fuerte Brewing Company and Kuvee—offered beverages throughout the evening.

This event was made possible by Gesmer Updegrove and the Women's Enterprise Initiative. The venue was generously donated by Accomplice.
