Babson College, the globally recognized leader in entrepreneurship education, has awarded Florida residents Jose Darsin and Jessica Tabert the first full-tuition scholarships for
Babson Miami’s inaugural Blended Learning MBA beginning in September 2018.
Presentation took place at an “Experience Entrepreneurial Thought and Action® at Babson Miami” preview on July 25, 2018, at the new 5,500 square-foot state-of-the-art home for the
Babson Miami campus in Brickell, at 1200 Brickell Avenue.
These scholarships were created in collaboration with the City of Miami and the office of Mayor Francis Suarez.

Monica Moore, F. W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. Also participating were Babson alumni, local partners, and government officials, including a representative from the office of Mayor Francis Suarez, who has welcomed Babson’s scholarship program.
“Babson is thrilled to welcome Jessica and Jose to the Miami Blended Learning MBA program as our inaugural Florida Resident Scholars,” said President Healey. “Jessica and Jose are accomplished professionals who will enrich the Babson experience for their fellow students, and we look forward to welcoming them to the Babson community as we expand our presence in Miami and seek to bring Entrepreneurial Thought and Action to even more people and places.”
Babson is currently
accepting applications for the flexible Blended Learning MBA, strategically located in downtown Brickell, which allows students to earn a top-ranked MBA while balancing personal and professional life—in just 21 months.
"I am at a point in my career where I want and can drive my own future; with the Babson MBA I will just be better prepared to be successful," said Darsin.
Darsin has more than 27 years of experience in the transportation industry, during which he has occupied various executive and management roles. Darsin is a professional engineer in Florida; he holds a Civil Engineer degree from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and a Master of Science in transportation planning and engineering from New York University (formerly Polytechnic University). He has worked in all phases of transportation infrastructure, including planning, construction, maintenance, and operations.
His international experience includes leading projects in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Argentina. He has spent the last 16 years in the United States working in the infrastructure industry with different levels of responsibility.
He is currently director of operations and maintenance with Fluor. He is currently involved in several public private partnership projects across the country. Previously he has performed as executive vice president with FDI Services and vice president of operations with Transfield Services.
He has a proven record of achievement in developing, leading, and delivering business opportunities in local, national, and international contexts, encompassing areas such as project delivery, cost/margin improvement, and company strategy. In South Florida he has been responsible for the operations and maintenance of critical portions of the infrastructure, including the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority roads and facilities, and route U.S. Route 1 in Monroe Co.
He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has been married to Marcela Calderale for 26 years; they have three kids-Tomas, Sofia, and Franco- and currently reside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His passions are spending time with his family, traveling around the world, and cooking.
“You're not special if you meet the standard when others don't. You're special when others exceed the standard to follow your example,” said Tabbert, a U.S. Army and Air Force Reserve veteran, explaining what she shared with those under her command.
Tabbert is a business and hospitality professional with more than 16 years of experience in the events and hotel industries, including military protocol (large-scale, high-visibility military events). Her expertise includes project management, data analysis, customer service, network marketing, event consulting, and community leadership.
As a military service member, Staff Sergeant Tabbert was responsible for the training, education, and leadership of men and women in military intelligence, command, control, and communications. She conducted analysis and designed programs to that trained military members to identify strategies execute mission-oriented plans and directives. Staff Sergeant Tabbert also was placed in leadership positions over the Honor Guard. She was responsible for the complete event planning and successful execution of military ceremonies for 250 to 20,000 attendees.
She continues her passion for event planning and strategic collaboration in her roles as CEO of J. Gisele, an events and entertainment agency specializing in culinary experiences, and as the founder and director of the CIC Military Cohort, an educational program designed to offer business resources and workspace to veteran and military spouse entrepreneurs. Using events as a platform, Tabbert connects businesses and organizations with their target audience to facilitate networking and partnerships. She uses her knowledge of data analysis, strategic collaboration, and community building to create an environment that sustains business growth, builds relationships, and contributes to community efforts.
She founded the CIC Military Cohort as a social entrepreneurship endeavor to empower veterans and military spouses to start and grow businesses in South Florida. The program operated from January to July, 2018 at the Cambridge Innovation Center Miami, a co-working space in Wynwood. Tabbert also is the head of military partnerships at Caribu, an app that allows parents, mentors, and family members to read to children aged 0-7 when they are not in the same location.
Tabbert has a Bachelor of Science in sports, entertainment, and event Mmanagement from Johnson & Wales University. As a community leader, she is the chair of the Mission United Outreach Committee, volunteers annually with the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation, and is a partner with R Stars Project, a nonprofit organization that empowers high school youth to shine in their communities. She also serves as the secretary of the board of directors for the Black Professionals Network and the vice president of operations for the National Sales Network.
Tabbert is married to Sergeant First Class Nathan Tabbert, an active-duty soldier stationed at U.S. Southern Command in Miami. Together they have four children. She also is a huge nerd. When she’s not trying to take over the world, she loves adventure, reading, cooking, and learning things.
Blended Learning MBA — Babson Miami

This unique approach to an MBA combines online classes, face-to-face sessions, and virtual collaboration so students can make the most of their learning, their time, and their investment.
- Online learning averages 20 hours per week. This includes readings, case preparation, contributing to asynchronous and real-time discussions, and active participation in team-based exercises and projects.
