The Babson-Rwanda Entrepreneurship Center Hosts Reception In Kigali At Home Of U.S. Ambassador to Rwanda

Babson alumni Ben Cox and Chris Smith, Project Directors for The Babson-Rwanda Entrepreneurship Center, hosted reception at home of Ambassador W. Stuart Symington.

The Babson-Rwanda Entrepreneurship Center (BREC) co-hosted a networking reception with the US Ambassador to Rwanda, W. Stuart Symington, at the Ambassador’s residence in Kigali, Rwanda, on May 2.

More than fifty people attended, representing over twenty businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies dedicated to advancing entrepreneurship in the country.

Babson alumni Benjamin Cox ’10 and Christopher Smith ’09 M’10, the Center’s first Project Directors, used the opportunity to announce BREC as the official co-host of this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week in Rwanda, alongside the Entrepreneurship Alliance, a newly established coalition of entrepreneurship service providers being spearheaded by Cox and Smith.

Plans for the week are currently being developed and the two expect to oversee a small number of national events with members of the Entrepreneurship Alliance organizing a larger number of local initiatives.

A working group within The Entrepreneurship Alliance meets to discuss upcoming projects.

In September 2010, BREC partnered with the Rwandan Private Sector Federation and opened its doors in the nation’s capital, Kigali. Since then, Cox and Smith have engaged in a variety of projects aimed at strengthening the country’s entrepreneurial environment. This summer, a group of students and alumni from Babson will join the two in Rwanda to facilitate a week-long entrepreneurship workshop for the nation’s top secondary school students.
