Accessibility Accommodations for Guests with Disabilities
Babson College is committed to providing accommodations for individuals with visual, hearing, and/or orthopedic/mobility-related impairments. For individuals with an orthopedic/mobility-related impairment:
- Special drop-off locations are located on the Coleman Hall side of the Upper Athletic Fields and at the Webster Center. Directional signage will be posted, and the driver of the car will be directed to the nearest parking lot.
- Golf carts will transport guests to the tent from the drop-off locations.
- Accessible seating under the tent is also available.
For individuals with a hearing impairment, assistive listening devices will be provided upon request.
Please call the Events Management Office at 781-239-5265 no later than Friday, April 25 to make arrangements for visual, hearing, and/or orthopedic/mobility-related requirements, or if you would like an accommodation not listed above or have any questions regarding accessibility issues.
Babson hosts, identified by green ribbons on their name tags, will be stationed throughout the campus on Commencement day to provide any assistance that may be needed.
The Baccalaureate service derives from the medieval European custom of presenting the candidates for the degree of bachelor (bacca) with laurels (lauri) of sermonic oration. The baccalaureate ceremony is a service of worship in celebration of and thanksgiving for lives dedicated to learning and wisdom.
Babson’s Baccalaureate takes place in the Glavin Family Chapel on the Friday before Commencement and is a multifaith ceremony. Students, staff, faculty, and the Office of Faith and Service deliver this ceremony and share their reflections and blessings as the graduates get ready to embark on their new adventure. A light reception is offered beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the service beginning promptly at 11 a.m. and ends at noon. All are welcome to attend this service. »
The Babson College Bookstore is located in the Donald W. Reynolds Campus Center. For more information on gifts available from the bookstore, including engraved Babson chairs and lamps, and decorative diploma frames, please visit the bookstore in person or online. The bookstore will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the day of Commencement, and will have an annex near the tent on the Upper Athletic Fields during the ceremonies.
As a courtesy to others, we ask that all cellular phones be muted during the ceremony. Those wishing to use their phones may leave the tent to make calls.
Children are welcome to attend the ceremony; however, due to safety precautions, graduates are not permitted to carry, or be accompanied by children on stage.
Commencement Invitation Letter – International Students
This letter is issued to individuals requesting to invite family/guests to visit them in the U.S. for Commencement or for students who require a letter to return to the U.S. for Commencement. Request Letter Invitation »
Concession tents selling food and beverages will be open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Diploma frames and Babson clothing and gifts can be purchased on the Upper Athletic Fields as well.
Directions to Babson
Please see the Visiting Babson page for maps and directions.
Sponsored by the class of 2015, you may pre-order flowers from Commencement Flowers for your graduate or make a purchase at the tent area on the day of Commencement.
Lost and Found
Lost and found articles will be held by the Department of Public Safety at 781-239-5555.
Medical services will be available at the first-aid vehicle, located on site.
On Commencement day, all parking areas, except for the reserved parking around the Webster Center, will be available to guests. While at first glance Babson may appear to have more than adequate parking, we assure you that every lot is full on Commencement day. Some parking areas are a 10- to 15-minute walk to the ceremony site; therefore, we recommend that guests arrive early.
With the exception of visual assistance dogs, pets of any kind are not allowed in the Commencement tent. We ask that you leave pets at home on this day.
Three professional photographers will take pictures of each graduate; first before going on stage, second when they cross the stage and third, as they come off the stage with diploma in hand. We ask guests to remain in their seats. Within approximately two weeks, proofs of the photos and a form to place an order will be mailed by the photographer, Grad Images. Babson College serves only in the capacity of providing the photographer. All questions regarding photographs should be directed to the studio directly at Grad Images, 1-800-261-2576.
Places of Worship
The Glavin Family Chapel on campus is an interfaith place of worship. The schedule of services during Commencement weekend will be posted at the chapel and on their website. There are several churches and synagogues in Wellesley. See Worship Services for an expanded list.
Restrooms are located on both floors of the Webster Center. In addition, there will be portable facilities close to the Commencement tent area. Facilities are accessible to physically challenged guests.
That Special Goodbye
This Babson tradition allows faculty, administrators, undergraduates, parents, and friends to send congratulatory notes and cards to undergraduate degree candidates at the ceremony. Your message should be in a sealed standard-sized envelope, with the first and last name of the candidate on it and clearly marked Undergraduate School. The Events Management Office staff will place your envelope on the candidate’s chair before the start of the ceremony.
Only greeting cards will be accepted. We ask that you present any packages, flowers or money after the ceremony. Please submit your card or note (with a return address), no later than April 25 to:

Water stations will be located at several points around the Commencement tent.
Commencement will be held under the tent, rain or shine, in order to accommodate a larger audience. Since New England weather can vary in May, we ask our guests to dress appropriately for the conditions. Candidates and guests must provide their own umbrellas and raincoats. Participants and guests should come prepared if inclement weather is expected on Commencement day.
Please note: Regardless of weather conditions, Babson will provide a live broadcast of the ceremony in the Carling-Sorenson Theater for guest viewing if they choose to be inside.
In the event of an extreme weather emergency, please refer to the Babson home page or the Babson College Information Line, 781-239-INFO (4636), for detailed information.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email the Events Management Office or call 781-239-5265.
