In the same way that we support our students to learn and develop, we support and invest in our employees, too. It’s key to our success. As a world-class college, we need our people to set the tempo, becoming the learning pioneers who seek out new approaches, advocate continuous learning, and lead by example when it comes to owning and driving personal development.

Continuous Learning is one of Babson’s six core competencies, so we place great importance on the ongoing development of our employees. The College’s continuous learning objective is to provide opportunities that enhance near-term job performance, employee engagement, and achievement of career goals; and the Organizational Learning and Development department provides a variety of services to promote employees’ personal and professional growth. Employees and supervisors are encouraged to take an active role in identifying and pursuing opportunities on and off campus to sustain continued learning.

In addition to offering a variety of skills training workshops for employees at all levels, Babson also highlights its commitment to continuous learning through our semiannual Community Learning Day which represents a unique design and approach to workplace learning by giving all Babson College faculty and staff the opportunity to invest in professional and personal development and connect, grow, and give back to the community.

Continuous Learning generally refers to workshops or seminars offered to teach specific skills or knowledge, or opportunities that allow employees to develop personally.

Organizational Development refers to a systematic approach to improving individual, group and/or organizational effectiveness.

    This weekly meditation class will be led by Babson&rsquo;s Meditation Instructor, Chris Scheller, who will guide participants through a variety of accessible, secular meditation techniques adapted from the Buddhist tradition. These simple and direct practices cultivate relaxation, mindfulness, and basic wellbeing. By relaxing tension and opening to our sensory experience through these techniques, participants will learn new means of working with stress, difficult emotions, physical discomfort, and the challenges we encounter in our lives. This class is suitable for any experience level. <br /> <br /> Chris trained to teach meditation at Harvard University, where he received a Master of Divinity degree in 2009. He concentrated his studies on the intersection of meditation and psychology, as well as the history of meditation practices within the Buddhist tradition. He has studied at various ashrams and monasteries in India and the USA including the Tushita Meditation Centre, the Insight Meditation Society, the Zen Peacemakers, and lived and studied at the Cambridge Zen Center.

The Investing in Inclusive Finance program addresses the challenges and opportunities of investing in financial inclusion by strengthening financial institutions to better serve clients at the base of the pyramid. She leads the Africa Board Fellowship Program, a fellowship program dedicated to strengthening governance and improving risk management and strategy for CEOs and board directors of sub-Saharan Africa financial institutions.<br /> <br /> She also directs the Financial Inclusion Equity Council (FIEC), a membership organization of private entities making equity investments in microfinance institutions (MFIs) financial institutions in emerging markets. Ms. Drake is the co-editor of The Commercialization of Microfinance: Balancing Business and Development and the co-author of Alchemists for the Poor: NGOs as Financial Institutions.<br /> <br /> Before joining ACCION International, Ms. Drake was a banking specialist in the Financial Policy and Systems Division of the World Bank and a commercial banker in Washington, DC.     This weekly meditation class will be led by Babson&rsquo;s Meditation Instructor, Chris Scheller, who will guide participants through a variety of accessible, secular meditation techniques adapted from the Buddhist tradition. These simple and direct practices cultivate relaxation, mindfulness, and basic wellbeing. By relaxing tension and opening to our sensory experience through these techniques, participants will learn new means of working with stress, difficult emotions, physical discomfort, and the challenges we encounter in our lives. This class is suitable for any experience level. <br /> <br /> Chris trained to teach meditation at Harvard University, where he received a Master of Divinity degree in 2009. He concentrated his studies on the intersection of meditation and psychology, as well as the history of meditation practices within the Buddhist tradition. He has studied at various ashrams and monasteries in India and the USA including the Tushita Meditation Centre, the Insight Meditation Society, the Zen Peacemakers, and lived and studied at the Cambridge Zen Center.
