Director of the Office of Institutional Research

Anne Marie Delaney is the Director of the Office of Institutional Research at Babson College and has held this position since the Office was established in December, l996. Anne Marie holds a Ph.D. in Educational Research, Measurement and Evaluation from Boston College. She has worked in the field of higher education research since l981 and in institutional research since l985. Her research interests encompass admission, retention, assessment, alumni studies and institutional researchers' role in policy. Anne Marie's professional activities include membership in the North East Association of Institutional Research (NEAIR), the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), and the European Association for Institutional Research (EAIR). She was the President of the North East Association of Institutional Research (NEAIR) in 2001 and has served as Chair of the AIR Forum Publications Editorial Advisory Committee from 2002 to 2006; member of the AIR Publications Committee from 2002 to 2007; and member of the Research Advisory Committee of the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium (HEDS) from 1998 to 2002. Anne Marie is currently an Editorial Board Member for Tertiary Education and Management (TEAM), the Journal of the European Association for Institutional Research .

 

Research/Technology Specialist

Nicholas Tomarello is a Research Application Technologist in the Office of Institutional Research. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management Information Systems and Entrepreneurship, and an MBA from Babson College. His areas of expertise include web development, database management, and creating graphic displays. Responsibilities of this position include creating dynamic web-based applications in Coldfusion that support the research agenda, designing and maintaining the office web site, reviewing and purchasing new hardware and software technologies, creating and implementing scannable survey systems, and retrieving information from national and other external databases. A significant achievement of this position has been to enhance the efficiency and productivity of the Office by complementing previous paper based data collection and processing procedures with technology driven systems.
 
Level 2: Research Assistant:
Using Microsoft Word and Excel, the student assists the Director of Institutional Research in the creation and formatting of tables, graphs, and reports. Additional responsibilities include coding, entering, and verifying the data used in research studies, as well as proofreading reports for accuracy.
 
Level 3: Technology Assistant:
Using Microsoft Office, student assists the Director of Institutional Research in the creation and formatting of tables, graphs, presentations, and reports. Other areas of responsibility include producing and processing scannable surveys, managing Access databases, and coding, entering, and verifying the data used in research studies. Level 5: Technology Specialist Using a range of sophisticated technology applications, the student assists the Director of Institutional Research in creating software programs for statistical analysis; designing and processing scannable surveys; conducting electronic reviews of the literature. He or she also assists in creating and maintaining web based applications for institutional research studies. Other areas of responsibility include creating and managing Access databases, producing Excel tables and graphs, and powerpoint presentations.
