Setting up Babson Gmail on your Mac for use with Mail and iCal

 

For Mail version 4.X 

  1. In the Mail app, open Preferences, then open the Accounts tab and hit the + button to add a new account. (If you have attempted to add their Babson Gmail account previously, delete the old account first, force-close Mail, and then re-open the program)
  2. Enter your Full Name, your Babson email address, and Babson Password, then hit Continue.
  3. For the Incoming Mail Server, please fill in the following information:
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Description: Babson Gmail
    • Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
    • User Name: your full email address [username@babson.edu]
    • Password: your Babson password
  4. Click Continue
  5. For the Outgoing Mail Server, please fill in the following information:
    • Description: Babson Gmail
    • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com (note: Mail will attempt to auto-fill this field. Just continue typing "smtp.gmail.com" then add a space at the end. This will make sure that the only information in the field is the server name.)
    • Use only this server: make sure this is checked on
    • Use authentication: make sure this is checked on
    • User Name:your full email address [username@babson.edu]
    • Password: your Babson password
  6. Click Continue
  7. At the Account Summary screen, verify that SSL is turned on for both the incoming and outgoing servers, and that Take account online is checked.
  8. Click Create to finish.

 

For Other Versions of Mail:

 

Please note that if no accounts have been added to Mac Mail yet, your email will automatically be configured for access.  If you're trying to configure an additional Gmail address with IMAP access, please follow these steps:

  1. Click Mail > Preferences....

  2. On the Accounts tab, click the + button to add a new account.

  3. Fill in the Welcome to Mail window with the following information:

    • Full Name: [your name]

    • Email Address: your full email address [username@babson.edu]

    • Password: your Babson password

  4. Click Create, leave all boxes checked, and verify your Account Summary.

  5. From the Mail menu, click Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors

    • Drafts: Store draft messages on the server > do NOT check

    • Sent: Store sent messages on the server > do NOT check

    • Junk: Store junk messages on the server > checked, Delete junk messages when > Never

    • Trash: Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox > do NOT check, Store deleted messages on the server > do NOT check

  6. Be sure to save all settings before closing the window.
