Facebook has now become an integral part of Babson's social media strategy. If your department has a Facebook page we encourage you to link to it from your SharePoint page, if appropriate. There are two things you can show using a Facebook web part: 1) a simple "Like" button, or 2) a "Like" button with a short feed from your page. Both of these can be seen on the right-hand-side of this page.
The Like Box is a social plugin that enables Facebook Page owners to attract and gain Likes from their own website. The Like Box enables users to:
See how many users already like this Page, and which of their friends like it too
Read recent posts from the Page
Like the Page with one click, without needing to visit the Page
Go to this Facebook Developer's Page to find the plug-in and customize to your page. You should see this form:
Under "Facebook Page URL" Copy and Paste your Facebook page's URL.
Set the width to 220px if you are using the web part to either the left or right of your main content. Set the with to 456px if you are using it in the middle.
Uncheck "Show Faces"
Select "Show Stream" if you want an activity feed to be displayed. Uncheck "Show Stream" if you only want a like button.
Click "Get Code" and select the IFRAME view. Copy the code displayed.
Go back to the page where you want to add the Facebook web part. In editing mode, select Add a Web Part > Forms > HTML Form Web Part, click Add. Once your web part has appeared, from the drop down menu select "Edit Web Part."
Select "Source Editor..." A pop-up window should open. Delete all the existing code and Paste the code from Facebook to replace everything. Click Save to close the pop-up.
Now you just need to configure how your web part looks. There's no need to change the title, but make sure to set the width to either 220px or 456px depending on where your web part is, and change the "Chrome Type" to None. Click OK and you're done!
