Venezuelan CADIVI Letter

What is CADIVI?

CADIVI (Comisión de Administración de Divisas - Commission for the Administration of Currency Exchange) is the Venezuelan government body which administers currency exchange in Venezuela. Commercial banks and other authorized exchange agents are required to obtain authorization from CADIVI in order to trade Bolίvares Fuertes (VEF) into U.S. dollars (USD). Who is required to use the CADIVI process?

  • Anyone who needs to exchange VEF for USD in order to travel, study or import products.

  • The CADIVI process is required to exchange the Venezuelan currency to any other currency.

  • Students and scholars in F and J status.

  • Business people, importing goods from Venezuela to the U.S. or other countries which accept the dollar.

  • Tourists from Venezuela to the U.S.

What is the CADIVI Process?

  1. Students must provide multiple documents to the Venezuelan government in order to be approved for CADIVI.
  2. Students cannot make payment until they are approved for CADIVI.

Exception: Student has sufficient U.S. dollars and uses this for payment but will want reimbursement upon approval.

Required Documents

  • Registration with CADIVI: www.cadivi.gob.ve
  • CADIVI Letter from Babson explaining costs - should correspond to Form I-20 (F status) or Form DS-2019 (J status) and dates of sessions (must be notarized then sent to the Capital for an Apostille)
  • Acceptance Letter from Babson (First semester only; class schedule after)
  • Form I-20 (F status) or Form DS-2019 (J status), Form I-94 (front and back), visa, passport identification and expiration page(s), & Venezuelan ID (cedula)
  • 2 applications (Constancia de Registro Consular & Registro de Venezolanos)
  • All of these documents must be sent to the Venezuelan Consulate in D.C. with a prepaid, addressed return envelope
  • Once received from D.C. can be sent to Venezuela

How do I Request a CADIVI Letter from Babson?

Submit a CADIVI Letter Request Form via e-mail or drop off in person to the Office of the Registrar. The Office of the Registrar will notify you in three to five business days to pick up your official, signed and notarized CADIVI Letter. Note: You will be required to present your Babson One Card for identification purposes.

If you are unable to pick up the letter in person, ensure that you have completed the mailing address on the CADIVI Letter Request Form and the letter will be sent to you via the service which you have indicated.

What Details are Included in a Babson CADIVI Letter?

All CADIVI letters issued by the Office of the Registrar and Student Financial Services are in a format and consisting of only that information which is required, as determined by best practices in the field. The letter will include: academic information (enrollment start date, expected graduation date, degree/major, and current enrollment of semester, student number is requested). Registrar’s Office cannot verify any semester that a student is not enrolled in. The letter will also include the required University expenses (tuition, medical insurance, on-campus housing and meals). Only expenses that appear on your student account can be provided.

It is your responsibility to get the CADIVI letter provided by Babson translated into Spanish.

Notary Public

The translated CADIVI Letter must be signed by the student for whom it was issued stating that this is the correct and an exact translation; this signature must be validated by the same Notary Public that notarized the student’s signature on the original English version of the letter. Apostille

Apostille is an authentication of documents for use overseas. Authentications are in the form of either an apostille or a gold seal certificate. If the country to which a document pertains is part of the Hague Convention of 1961 (#12), the document receives an apostille.
