Sorenson Staff

Michèle Oshima, Director

Michèle arrived at Babson during the summer of 2010 to become the Director of the Sorenson Center for the Arts. After graduating from Wellesley College with a degree in economic development, she worked in international business for 10 years: first in NYC at a Japanese trading company buying spare parts and stores for oil tankers and container ships (via telex); then building an international distributor network for a privately held, Harvard Square-based mainframe software company. After finding her after-hours non-profit board service more fulfilling than her for-pay work, Michèle transitioned to MIT in 1995: first 7 years serving as coordinator of the MIT Program in Women’s Studies; and then connecting folks as the director of the Student and Artist-in-Residence Programs in the MIT Office of the Arts. She plays trumpet in local bands, including the big band, The Mood Swings, and takes every opportunity to try something new like playing with Anthony Braxton in the Sonic Genome Project, an eight-hour gig at the Vancouver Cultural Olympiad in January 2010. Michèle is learning to enjoy car ownership and commuting after many decades as a pedestrian and public transportation user. Instead of reading en route, she is now listening to a lot of music, most recently, Red Baraat, Freshlyground, and Oumou Sangare (whom she has met and reveres as a goddess).

Mark Lorenzo, Technical Director

Mark comes to Babson with a rich background in the industry: 2 stints managing the Venue Communications Centers for the Salt Lake City and Vancouver, Winter Olympic Games; 7 years with High Output Inc., a provider of theater and film production equipment as well as systems design and installation, theatrical production, and special events; and 10 years with the Boston Ballet Company in the production department. He attended both Boston University and Emerson College, where he assisted with the opening of the Emerson (now Cutler) Majestic Theater. His extensive network and deep experience is an invaluable resource to the students and Babson community.

Maggie McCauley, Adiministrative Coordinator

Maggie grew up outside of Boston and attended Boston University where she received a BA in Sociology.  She has worked for a number of area start-up companies; however, her passion is black and white photography.  She currently resides in Uxbridge, MA with her husband John (who is a demolition expert) and is a member of the Galatea Fine Arts Gallery, located in the SOWA area of Boston. Maggie is currently working on a show that will feature her personal photography work. Some of her favorite music artists are Stevie Ray Vaughan, Adele, and K T Tunsall.  Maggie is currently the Administrative Coordinator for the Sorenson Center for the Arts.
