International Students

Health care may look different in the U.S. than in your home country.

It may be challenging at first, but Babson Health & Wellness is here to help. Our staff is experienced in serving international students and are happy to answer any of your questions.

New International Students

Please review our New Students page for information that applies to all new students—domestic and international.

The U.S. Health Care System

The U.S. Health Care system is complex and can be difficult to navigate. Unlike countries with nationalized health care, fees are charged for all health services received in the U.S. The cost of health care tends to rise with the level of care provided—with “Primary Care” being the least expensive, and “Emergency Care” and “Hospitalization” being the most expensive.

Having quality health insurance is essential to help cover these costs. Please review our Insurance Requirements page for more information about requirements and enrollment.

Counseling and Mental Health in the U.S.

In the U.S., emotional wellbeing is considered an important part of one's overall health. Counseling is a safe, non-judgmental forum to talk with someone privately and confidentially about any concern, big or small. In the U.S. and at Babson, it is common for students to speak to a professional counselor about a variety of concerns including culture shock, home-sickness, sadness, and academic stress.

For some international students, speaking with a professional counselor may be a new experience—especially for those from cultures in which people typically turn to family members, friends, or religious/spiritual leaders for help. In the U.S., counseling is a common way that people seek support for personal problems and concerns. Many international students find it helpful as they adjust to new surroundings.
