Girls Field Hockey

Girls Field Hockey Camp encourages player development. The teaching sessions are structured to allow players ages 10–16 to progress at their own pace with players of similar age and ability.

In addition to fundamental stick work skills, players receive instruction and the opportunity to practice in competitive games and drills. Special emphasis is placed on increasing each camper’s overall understanding of the rules, concepts, and team strategies of the sport. The camp strives to develop in each camper the qualities needed to become an all-around, excellent field hockey player with solid offensive and defensive skills.

Program Objectives

• Improve basic game skills: Ball control, jabs, blocks, shooting, scoring, and stick work
• Improve defensive positioning, marking, interceptions, circle play, and transitional game
• Emphasize teamwork and fair play
• Learn more about field hockey while enjoying the game

Specialized Goalkeeping Instruction

Individual goalkeeping training sessions, supervised by our experienced staff, cover all aspects of the technical and tactical skills necessary for developing goalkeepers. The program is customized for each goalie’s needs. If you are attending camp as a goalie, please check the appropriate space on the application.

Equipment

Campers must bring their own field hockey stick, mouth guard, shin guards, cleats, and sneakers for potential indoor and turf play. Goalies must bring a complete set of goalie equipment.

Julie Ryan, Camp Director

Head Field Hockey Coach, Babson College

Julie Ryan begins her sixth season as Babson’s head field hockey coach and director of Babson’s Field Hockey Camp. In 2010, she led the program to its first-ever NEWMAC Championship, and the team’s second NCAA Tournament appearance. A native of Brewster, Massachusetts, Ryan came to Babson from Boston College, where she served as the Eagles’ assistant field hockey coach. Ryan’s experience includes numerous field hockey camps throughout New England along with the U.S. Field Hockey Association Futures Program. She also has served as the director of the prestigious Revolution Field Hockey Camps, and was the head coach of the Worcester County United U16 Team.
