I Wish I Knew
The transition from high school to college can be full of surprises. Make sure you are as prepared for everything this new experience will throw at you. Babson Peer Mentors and other current students are here to offer you some advice on some things you can expect, and what they wish they knew before coming to Babson.
I wish I knew...
…how to prevent distraction during studying.
Everyone has their own study methods, but it’s always important to maintain a focus. Whether that means being surrounded by people and ambient noise or being in your own quiet bubble, there’s a place on campus that you can make that happen! Try and find your study niche quickly so that when exam time comes around, you don’t get caught up in the frenzy of finding a place to study.

…how to take effective notes.
Depending on the subject and the professor, you’re going to need to make sure you know how to take notes that will help you study. It’s not about taking everything down, but taking the right things down and making sure you understand what the professor wants you to get out of the discussion.

…to take those AP exams because they allow you to waive college courses (gain college credit).
Babson accepts 4’s and 5’s on the APs for college credit, so if you’re looking to take more advanced classes more quickly, get those scores in!

…making a schedule/managing time is important.
As much work as you will encounter freshman year, it’s super important to find time to yourself to relax and reflect! Make sure you schedule in some you-time to take a break and zone out and think about something else besides work/school-work/clubs and organizations/athletic commitments, etc.

…how to eat healthy.
Babson has a nutritionist and Trim has a lot of organic and locally grown food for its students! It’s really easy to lose track of what you’re eating and how much of it you’re eating, so if you find yourself a little sluggish, make sure you check out your eating habits and make sure you’re getting enough of your daily dose of good and healthy food.

…how to keep your room smelling good.
After a while of letting all the trash and laundry pile up and kicking and pushing things everywhere, your room is going to smell pretty bad. Make sure you clean it up and vacuum it regularly (your RA will have a vacuum for you to use!) and get some Febreze or other air fresheners to keep that room smelling fresh and not like a dump!

…how to tie my ties.
Guys wear ties all the time (and girls wear formal clothing!) for business presentations and networking events. It’s a small and simple thing to learn and is super useful!
