I Wish I Knew
In March of 2012, Students who transferred to Babson over the last two years were asked this question: What do you wish you knew about Babson before you transferred here that you know now?
Here is what they had to say:
I wish I knew there were many programs and associations I could join in the very beginning of semester, such as Hatchery program and venture accelerator program. In addition, make good use of CCD, many companies like PwC start their applications of summer internship in fall semester. (joined Babson in Fall 2011)
It's definitely difficult to make friends during your first semester if you do not throw yourself out there and join clubs or organizations or just take risks in general. (joined Babson in Spring 2011)
It's a safe space for you to make mistakes and learn from them. Faculty are there to mentor you personally and you literally have everyone accessible to you. So take advantage of the brief but amazing opportunity you have. (joined Babson in Spring 2011)
Even though Babson is considered to have a very diverse student body, there are many parts of the world that are underrepresented. International students are, for the most part, from wealthy backgrounds and from emerging economies. (joined Babson in Spring 2011)
What I was so surprised about when I arrived to Babson was the diversity of the student body. The website said a bit about it but not nearly as there is at the college. As students we get to know people from all kinds of backgrounds which also contributes to our Babson experience. (joined Babson in Fall 2011)
I wish I knew more about groups that existed on campus. I think this is very important because for transfer’s, the key is to get involved. If you are not part of a sports team or Greek life it can be very hard to get involved and meet new people. (joined Babson in Fall 2010)
I wish I knew about professionals and companies who have come onto campus (ex: Daymond John, Andrew Zimmern) and their involvement with the school as well as details on their participation in internship fairs. I think it would be beneficial to know about the Choose program through the CCD, the Butler Venture Accelerator/Summer Venture Program and the various business plan competitions that go on. (joined Babson in Fall 2011)
The Babson alumni directory/resources. (joined Babson in Fall 2011)
The College’s sustainability programs. (joined Babson in Fall 2011)
Academics
I wished to know about the curriculum and classes more in depth. (joined Babson in Spring 2012)
Over all the main topics of interest were satisfying. It would've however been interesting to know that I could have done cross classes with other colleges since the beginning. It makes everything more complicated but I think it would've been worthwhile. Other than that it was all well! (joined Babson in Fall 2011)
Brian Duggan is the man and when I am frustrated with teachers I can go talk with him. (joined Babson in Fall 2011)
I wish I knew more about the features and support systems at Babson. This includes things like the math resource center, the writing center, academic services, etc. I knew that these things existed, but I did not know how helpful they would be or how prevalent they were used by students.
