Do I have to register for recruitment?
Yes. You can register for recruitment through our online system when it becomes available. You can also stop by the Office of Student Activities and Leadership in 211 Reynolds, at the Organization Fair or at the Sorority Information Session for more information.
Are there people available to help me?
YES! Our Recruitment Counselors along with members of Panhel’s Executive Council will be with you every step of the way to answer any questions you might have about recruitment or sorority life at Babson.
What should I wear to recruitment?
Come as you are most comfortable (whether that’s sweatpants or a skirt!). If you are coming from another activity, there is no need to change.
What kind of interactions can I expect with the women of the sororities?
Throughout the recruitment process the goal on both ends should be a higher understanding of each other; and therefore the most important advice is to be yourself. Our chapters are made of up a diverse group of woman, and we don’t look for particular characteristics. We instead look at how you’ll fit within our chapter, and you should be looking to where you fit as well. In a sense it’s kind of like a first date, there should be chemistry and a level of comfort on both ends.
What is a legacy? Does it definitely secure me a spot within the chapter?
A legacy is a daughter, sister or grandaughter of a sorority alumna. It is not a requirement to be a legacy to join a sorority at Babson. Most of our sisters, in fact, are not legacies of any sorority, and some may have joined different organizations than their family members. If you are a legacy, we would encourage you to note that. This allows sororities at least to have the information, which they will use differently depending on how they use legacy status. Our chapters look at how each PNM individually will “fit” within the entire chapter, both for the overall happiness of the chapter and the PNM.
Why should I join a sorority?
Even if you never thought sororities were for you, we encourage you to come out and meet the women of each sorority (even if it’s just for the first night of recruitment). Sorority life offers many women an amazing bond of sisterhood and irreplaceable home away from home that they never expected. Additionally we provide philanthropy opportunities, and life-long networking and career development opportunities (with an international connection to other members).
I play a sport at Babson. What happens if I can’t make it to an entire event?
We understand that you are required to be at your practices and games for your sport. If you find that you might have a conflict, please talk to one of our Recruitment Counselors.
How much are dues?
Dues vary for each chapter on the Babson campus. Your first semester is always the most expensive semester for one time new member fees or purchases like your chapter badge. Chapter dues often decrease after the first semester and vary by chapter. Be sure to ask chapter members during recruitment about specific chapter costs. Dues information will be shared during round two of formal recruitment.
Will I be hazed as a new member?
Hazing is absolutely not allowed on the Babson College campus or by any Inter/National Organization. If you feel that you or someone you know is being hazed in any way, please report the behavior to a Babson College official or on our anti-hazing website.
