After graduating from Hampton University, a historically black college in Virginia, I started my career as an executive trainee with Macy’s Business Development Program. I eventually became an assistant buyer for a $75 million department within Macy’s. Not only was I introduced to the fast-pace fashion industry in NYC, I also was responsible for the livelihood of brands such as DKNY, CK, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, and others. This responsibility immediately gave me a firsthand account of big business, retail, supply-chains, product management, marketing, and customer service. Later, I moved on to Barneys New York, considered a fashion Mecca for many, as a senior assistant buyer to work with high-end designers. Working with emerging designers, I realized I was witnessing and contributing to the development of fashion startups and their promising brands. Why couldn’t I do this myself? After resigning and having moved to Peru to spark my energy, I applied to Babson to join the entrepreneurial movement. Little did I know, I became a part of something greater ... a close-knit community where ideas were cherished and action demanded. I was home. Currently, I’m using the tools I learned, the network I gained, and the confidence I enhanced to build a brand of my own. Stay tuned ...

My Proudest Moment in Business

In 2002, my sister and I aggressively helped my father start REDE Inc. ( Today, the company now manages multimillion-dollar contracts for the U.S. government (including clients such as NASA, the EPA, and the DOE). Most importantly, because of my family’s business, we have been able to fund many of our extended family’s pursuits of higher education. Not only was it a goal of ours, but it helped provide opportunities that were either not fathomed or financially impossible. Giving back has become a priority!
