What piece of advice changed your life?

I had a mentor at a previous job who realized I was taking on too much responsibility and struggling to prioritize my time effectively. It was having a big impact on my satisfaction and productivity, and I felt like I couldn’t live up to a lot of expectations. He sent me a video clip of Steve Jobs speaking at a developer conference in 1997, where he said, “Focus is about saying no. And, the result of that focus is going to be some really great products where the total is much greater than the sum of the parts.” That advice had a really big impact on the way that I work and the way that I live.

How has being a member of the Babson community helped impact your career?

I’m always delighted when I tell co-workers that I went to Babson and they immediately have an amazingly positive and enthusiastic reaction. I think Babson grads leave with an incredible sense of professionalism and ambition, which is definitely noticed in the workplace.

Why does the world need more leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset?

Having an entrepreneurial mindset means taking a creative and sometimes unconventional approach to solving problems. It requires one to be open to a wide range of ideas, people, and perspectives. Those diverse experiences allow you to understand and tap into new markets, which will always give you a competitive advantage. For any leader who wants to stay successful and relevant, an entrepreneurial mindset is crucial.
