Babson College alumnus Daquan Oliver ’14 has been selected as a finalist to receive the Peace First Prize for helping to empower children of low-income to become the entrepreneurial leaders of tomorrow.

Daquan is the Founder and President of Recesspreneurs, a nonprofit, after-school entrepreneurial education mentor program, which helps children from low-income environments turn their dreams and ideas into action.

Daquan and his team at Recesspreneurs teach life skills, facilitate entrepreneurial thinking, and strive to close the achievement gap.

According to Peace First, “Daquan created the curriculum with help from his [Babson] professors after becoming a successful entrepreneur while still in college, despite the fact that he grew up in a financially insecure single-parent household. Recesspreneurs empowers both mentor and mentee, and to date has served more than 30 youth participants in two communities with the help of more than a dozen college student mentors. Daquan is looking forward to expanding in five additional communities during the 2015-2016 school year, which will serve more than 60 youth participants, and involve over 20 college mentors.”

Winners of the 2015 Peace First Prize will be announced this fall, and will receive a $25,000, two-year Fellowship to further their peacemaking work. The Fellowship includes networking, mentoring, and resources to invest in the long-term capacity of winners as peace-leaders of the world.
