Vice President Biden is leading a U.S. delegation to the Summit. Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Lorraine Hariton, Special Representative for Global Partnerships Kris Balderston, Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Rashad Hussain, and Special Advisor of Global Youth Issues Ronan Farrow are representing the U.S. Department of State. President Schlesinger was the only U.S. College President invited to participate in the proceedings this year.

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit, hosted by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, follows the 2010 Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship hosted by President Obama in Washington, D.C.

President Obama held the first summit to empower entrepreneurs with the skills and resources necessary to compete and thrive in the 21st century. At last year’s summit, the president announced the creation of several new U.S. Government initiatives and partnerships on entrepreneurship, including the Global Entrepreneurship Program, Partners for a New Beginning, and the Global Innovation through Science and Technology initiative.

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit will continue the discussion begun last year about the importance of entrepreneurship to economic growth and job creation. The Turkish Government expects more than 1,000 participants from over fifty countries. Participants include entrepreneurs and innovators, university faculty and students, nongovernmental organizations, government officials, and business leaders. The event will also include a Youth Entrepreneurship Summit.
