BABSON-RWANDA ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTER ALONG WITH OTHER PARTNER GROUPS HOST RWANDA CELEBRATION OF GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK
Rwanda, for the second year in a row, will participate in Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) from November 12-18. During this week Rwanda will join over 125 countries to host a series of activities and events designed to promote entrepreneurship and encourage business growth.
In all, the week will include over 45 activities hosted by 40 partner organizations, nearly doubling the levels from 2011. Notable activities include Educat’s REAL Business Accelerator which is a week-long competition to find Rwanda’s next entrepreneurial superstar. The winner of the competition will receive the REAL – Banque Populaire Entrepreneurship Award 2012, 2 million Francs, mentorship, office space, and the opportunity to represent Rwanda in the pan-African “Meet the Lions” business competition in South Africa.
The calendar of events also includes a series of workshops for university entrepreneurship clubs hosted by RDB, an access to finance awareness drive hosted by MYICT and 4 women’s entrepreneurship awards hosted by Women for Women International.
“In its 7 Years Program, the Government of Rwanda pledges to create 200,000 new jobs annually, targeting 1.4 million jobs at the end of the program. We believe that entrepreneurship will play a key role to achieve this goal by enabling women and youth, who comprise approximately 70% of the population, with skills required for the establishment and smooth running of business ventures leading to self-employment opportunities to meet new demands for quality, productivity, reliability, innovation, flexibility and capacity to adapt to changing needs. Through occasions like GEW, efforts are expected to expand the ability of women and young entrepreneurs to pursue economic opportunities, invest additional capital, hire more employees and grow their businesses." said the The Minister of Youth and ICT
Hosted nationally by the Babson-Rwanda Entrepreneurship Center, in 2012, GEW/Rwanda has partnered with the Ministry of Youth and ICT (Strategic Partner), the Rwanda Development Board (Strategic Partner), IGIHE, Ltd. (Media Partner) and GW Creators (Design Partner) and is sponsored by the ServiceMag to reach upwards of 25,000 people through fifty different activities around the country 2011 marked Rwanda’s inaugural Global Entrepreneurship Week. Twenty-two partner organizations joined the campaign and hosted twenty-six local activities that reached 12,000 people. The goal for 2012 is to roughly double those metrics and reach 50,000 people through fifty activities.
