Bio

Miranda Chase is an environmental governance scholar with a focus on the Amazon region. She has been working with indigenous and traditional communities in the Brazilian Amazon since 2011. Her research spans from dams, water resources and fisheries management, to social movements and policy analysis. She holds a PhD degree in Global Governance and Human Security (UMass Boston), a Masters' degree in Integrated Water Management (University of Queensland), and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations (University of Brasilia). She has taught courses on comparative politics, environmental politics, Latin American politics, and international development both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her publications address issues of climate change, global environmental networks, and grassroots initiatives in the Amazon. She is a former Smith Fellow and a current Buchanan Fellow with the Mercatus Center, where she studies environmental political economy.
