MODERATED MAILING LISTS

In the interest of protecting the Babson community from nuisance e-mail (SPAM), e-mails sent to certain lists are moderated before being distributed to the members of the destination list. This process is managed by a device known as the List Server.
When e-mail is sent to a moderated list, it is processed by the List Server and sent to one or more moderators to be reviewed for content and appropriateness. The following table describes currently moderated lists and their moderators:

This following mailing lists… Are moderated by this group…
Ugrads
Ugrad_Freshman_Class
Ugrad_Sophomore_Class

After reviewing a message, a moderator may take one of the following actions:
  • approve the message for distribution to the list membership,
  • suggest the message be posted to Blackboard, or
  • reject the message for reasons of non-compliance with acceptable use policies.
It is a violation of ITSD's Acceptable Use Policy to use any means to circumvent mailing list controls and/or the decisions of list moderators, or to use one or more un-moderated lists to address a list which would normally be moderated.

Restricted Mailing Lists

A restricted list is an un-moderated mailing list that only certain groups can send messages to. The fact that a restricted list is un-moderated does not relieve senders from their responsibilities under ITSD's Acceptable Use Policy.
The following lists for the Graduate School are restricted:
  • Grads [faculty/administration use] - This comprehensive list contains all of the students in the graduate school and is only accessible to faculty and staff.
  • Grads [student use] - This is the same list as above but is available for student use. Students who wish to opt out of this list can do so through the Babson Portal.
  • Grad Evening [faculty/administration use] - This list contains all of the current students in the
  • Evening MBA program and is only accessible to faculty and staff.
Grad Evening [student use] - This is the same list as above but is available for student use. Students who wish to opt out of this list can do so through the Babson Portal.
