Spring 2024 Newsletter
Welcome to Babson College’s Boston campus spring newsletter! This winter/spring the Boston Hub hosted many diverse events that highlighted the college's commitment to infuse entrepreneurial learning with social impact. We are so excited to share these stories with you, and upcoming events in the summer!
Located in the heart of Boston’s financial district, our campus at 100 High Street continues to provide students with collaborative workspaces and academic suites, seminar and course options for academic credit, and opportunities to connect with Boston’s business leaders, as well as some of the many Babson alumni who work in various industries in the city.
BOINGA Game Festival
We were thrilled to participate in the BOINGA Game Festival, centered around an indie board game exhibition where over 20 local designers presented their creations. Visitors had the chance to explore a variety of games at different stages of development, ranging from pen-and-paper prototypes to Kickstarter projects and finished products available in stores.
At the event, Vaughan Logan (pictured), a Babson Undergraduate student ‘25, proudly showcased his game, Cresce. Cresce is a competitive strategy game for two players where strategic thinking is key to outsmarting the other player—belonging to the same category as Chess and Go. Vaughn developed Arcs at the Weissman Foundry, where he is is also a scout manager. The Foundry is a creative hub and maker space where students can team up to enhance their ideas. After receiving positive feedback at the festival, Vaughan is now pursuing the next steps in production of his game.
Alongside the exhibition, attendees engaged in various activities, including board game tournaments, trivia night, a global rock-paper-scissors challenge, an ongoing puzzle hunt throughout the food hall, a puzzle room, and a Q&A session with local board game designers. We can’t wait for next year!
WriteBoston/Teens in Print (TiPs)
Against a backdrop of fun music and colorful decorations, TiPs teen reporters, parents, and supporters congregated to commemorate ten weeks of unwavering dedication and journalistic fervor. TiPs Teen Reporters reminisced about the myriad experiences that defined their journey: the relentless research, immersive learning, captivating interviews, event coverage, and forays into Boston’s diverse communities to report the news. With over 30 eager eighth to twelfth graders hailing from 20 different schools across Boston, Teens in Print stands as a beacon of youth empowerment and advocacy. It was an evening for celebration of accomplishment but also a testament to the transformative power of storytelling and the enduring spirit of collaboration. These young reporters continue to hone their craft and amplify their voices, as they pave the way for a brighter, more informed future—one headline at a time.
Babson Boston is proud to sponsor WriteBoston and the TiPs and Summer Journalism Programs.
Illuminate
Illuminate held its annual kickoff team-building workshop in February. Illuminate, which is in its 20th year, was founded in 2004 by Babson alum Shaun McMahon ’90. The group examined the impact they had in 2023 and discussed strategies for 2024. As a team building experience, Illuminate’s employees were joined by motivational speaker, mental health CEO, entrepreneur, and punk rocker Johnny Crowder, who is a true expert in addressing one of today's urgent business concerns: well-being.
Johnny created the positive psychology startup Cope Notes, and offers practical self-care techniques and mental health strategies that can be immediately implemented to enhance emotional well-being. The Illuminate team came away from his talk revitalized and with a better understanding of their own mental health.
