Committing to Making a Difference

Babson has committed to investing in sustainable leadership. Students in GLDE will explore how they can practically make a difference in the world.

Millennium Development Goals

GLDE will use the Millennium Development Goals as a framework for the program. Adopted by world leaders in the year 2000 and set to be achieved by 2015, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) provide concrete, numerical benchmarks for tackling extreme poverty in its many dimensions, and a framework for the entire international community to work together toward a common end—making sure that human development reaches everyone, everywhere. If these goals are achieved, world poverty will be cut by half, tens of millions of lives will be saved, and billions more people will benefit from the global economy. Babson is committed to helping achieve these goals and teaching students the skills to make a difference in the world.
  1. Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
  2. Achieve Universal Primary Education
  3. Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
  4. Child Health
  5. Improve Maternal Health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Other Diseases
  7. Ensure Environmental Sustainability
  8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Visit the United Nations Development Programme for a complete description of the goals, the 21 quantifiable targets within the goals, and the 60 indicators that they are measured by.

Principles for Responsible Management Education

In November 2008, Babson College became one of the first colleges and universities worldwide to become a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). By demonstrating our commitment, Babson continues to lead the way for change in business education and business practices to make the world a better, more inclusive and sustainable place. We are developing the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society, and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy.

Global Business School Network and Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative

Additionally, Babson is a member of the Global Business School Network (GBSN) and the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI). GBSN has been a leader in promoting management education as a critical component in successful international development strategies. GRLI’s vision involves a worldwide network of companies and learning institutions characterized by vast action and thorough exchange of learning. The partnership between Babson and these organizations provides another vehicle in Babson’s efforts to produce powerful social value on a global scale.
