All members of the Babson community welcome!

OCTOBER 11: Advancing Women, The Family Business Way

Torry Katsiroubas Stamm, President, Katsiroubas Brothers & Lauri Union, Executive Director, Institute for Family Entrepreneurship

Co-sponsored by the Babson Institute for Family Entrepreneurship

Research has found that the traits that make a family business successful, create an environment that is more welcoming and conducive to the development of women leaders – resulting in women advancing further and faster than any other industry. Join in the discussion, as our co-hosts, draw from first-hand experience as leaders of family business, to discuss these traits and how their application can be used to advance women both within family and non-family business organizations.

About Torry Katsiroubas Stamm

Torry Katsiroubas Stamm is the President and 4th generation co-owner of her family business, Katsiroubas Brothers. Throughout her childhood, Torry watched the family business grow with the leadership of her father.
Unlike most children, Torry spent her school and summer vacations supporting her father as he continued to shape the company and become a leader in produce distribution in the Northeast.

In 2005, Torry officially joined the company to work alongside her father and eventually her brother too. In 2013, Torry became the President of Katsiroubas Brothers upon her father’s passing from ALS. Torry leads the company, continuing her father’s legacy. Katsiroubas Brothers has doubled the revenue of the business since Torry and her brother became owners. Katsiroubas Brothers operates in Boston from a 80,000 square foot facility. Six days a week, 65 trucks head out all over New England to deliver produce, dairy and specialty products. The company reaches a customer base of 700 restaurants, hotels and institutions with over 5,000 product offerings.

Torry founded the Nick Katsiroubas Foundation in 2014 in honor of her father. The mission of the Foundation is to continue her father’s legacy of giving by supporting local children’s organizations as well as supporting the ALS community.

Torry earned her BA in Communications from Boston College and her MBA from University of Massachusetts, Boston.

About Lauri Union

Lauri Union comes to Babson with extensive experience both in family business leadership and entrepreneurship through organizational transformation. At the age of 27, she became president and CEO of her family business, Union Corrugating Company, a deeply troubled manufacturer of building products. Union grew the company significantly and led it to become an industry leader, remaining on the board after a private equity sale. Her work at Union Corrugating is featured in two Harvard Business School cases. She also led the turnaround of a large family business in the food industry from severe distress to stability and profitability in just 12 months. As an Entrepreneur in Residence at Harvard Business School, Union worked with students across the university. She currently serves as an advisor to ed-tech companies and education-related not for profits such as Teachers Connect and Next Dor.

Union is an active volunteer. In her role as president of the board of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston, she led the school through a time of existential crisis, creating an innovative new strategic vision and installing the leadership needed to achieve it. Union also is a member of the Board of the Planned Parenthood League of MA and served as an elected member of Brookline Town Meeting.

Union earned her BA in economics Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University as well her MBA from Harvard. She began her career as a management consultant at Bain and Company, and is both a Wildacres and Acharai Leadership Fellow.
Date and Time:
Thursday, October 11, 2018
4:30 - 6 p.m.

Location:
Roger's Pub & Grille
Babson Wellesley Campus

Event Cost: This event is complimentary for all Babson Community members.
