Fashion Entrepreneurship

Develop the entrepreneurial mindset to innovate and lead in the global fashion and beauty industries.

The fashion and beauty industries are among the world’s most dynamic sectors, shaped by changing consumer preferences, emerging technologies; economic, environmental and sustainability priorities; global supply chains; retail innovation; and evolving business models. Babson’s fashion entrepreneurship concentration prepares students to understand the business of fashion—as entrepreneurial leaders who can identify opportunities, build brands, manage products, interpret trends, and create value across fashion, beauty, luxury, retail, and consumer products.

You will understand fashion as a business, combining entrepreneurial thinking, fashion management, innovation, and growth strategy across sectors of the fashion and beauty industries. Whether you want to work for a global fashion, beauty, luxury, retail, or consumer products company—or launch a venture of your own—this concentration helps you build the foundation to move into the business side of fashion.

You’ll explore how companies bring products to market, connect with consumers, make merchandising and retail decisions, respond to trends, and develop growth strategies in a competitive global marketplace.

Where the Fashion Entrepreneurship Concentration Will Take You

Students explore how fashion-driven organizations build brands, launch products, engage consumers, manage retail and digital channels, analyze trends, and compete in an increasingly global marketplace. Through Babson’s distinctive approach to entrepreneurship, students learn how fashion intersects with entrepreneurship and business strategy, innovation, and venture creation—skills that apply whether they are joining an established company, growing a family business, or building something new.

Consistent with Babson’s signature action-based learning approach, students apply classroom concepts to real-world fashion, beauty, retail, and consumer products opportunities. Through experiential projects, industry partnerships, case analyses, and engagement with executives, entrepreneurs, and alumni, students gain practical experience with the kinds of decisions that shape the fashion business, including brand positioning, product development, merchandising strategy, consumer engagement, retail entrepreneurship, and market growth.

Students develop analytical, strategic, creative, and leadership skills sought by employers across fashion, beauty, retail, luxury, and consumer goods sectors, which could include:

How Fashion Entrepreneurship at Babson Differs from a Fashion Merchandising Degree

Students researching colleges with a fashion merchandising major, colleges with fashion merchandising concentrations, a B.S. in fashion merchandising, or a fashion merchandising program often want to understand the business side of the industry. While traditional fashion merchandising programs focus primarily on product planning, buying, retail operations, and merchandising strategy, our fashion entrepreneurship concentration takes a broader, more impactful approach. Students explore those concepts while also learning entrepreneurship, innovation, business strategy, growth, venture creation, and leadership. You will learn about fashion merchandising, along with other marketable fashion-adjacent skills.

Fashion Institute

For students seeking business education for fashion entrepreneurs, business of fashion education courses, entrepreneurship education for creative industries, or a fashion business degree, Babson offers a unique combination of entrepreneurial thinking, practical business education, and industry relevance. Students learn how to evaluate opportunities, launch products, build brands, develop merchandising strategies, and create value in both startups and established organizations.

Whether your goal is to join a global fashion brand, work in merchandising or marketing, launch a new venture, or help shape the future of retail and consumer products, the fashion entrepreneurship concentration provides a strong foundation in both entrepreneurship and the business of fashion.
