The Babson Alumni Advisory Board (formerly Babson Alumni Association), working collaboratively with the Alumni and Friends Network, strives to engage alumni, parents, and friends in meaningful ways that foster mutually beneficial lifelong relationships that advance the reputation of Babson around the world.

Babson Alumni Advisory Board (BAAB)

BAAB members advise on high-level strategic input, champion alumni engagement in support of College and Advancement initiatives, and serve as ambassadors engaging our global network.

The Babson Alumni Advisory Board is led by a Chair and comprised of 12 to 15 members. Additional leadership roles include Vice Chair of Alumni Engagement, Vice Chair of Fundraising, Vice Chair of Marketing, and Past Chair.

Each BAAB member serves a three year term.

The next term commences on July 1, 2020.

BAAB members’ responsibilities include the following:

  • Participate in BAAB meetings
  • Attend events and programs in member region. Attendance at events and programs in other regions is encouraged
  • Support the College philanthropically with a recurring, annual gift to Babson
  • Provide timely feedback on alumni engagement activities and initiatives
  • Support alumni activities, including but not limited to regional clubs and affinity groups, through their events and programs, new volunteer training, and club/group development
  • Promote and support select Center programs and activities
  • Take an active role in fundraising campaigns, e.g. Make Your Mark, Barefoot Challenge, etc.

 

BAAB members serving in leadership roles have additional responsibilities:

Chair:

  • Serve as primary liaison to the Alumni and Friends (AFN) and The Fund for Babson (TFFB)
  • Serve on the Babson Board of Trustees (per the Trustee by-laws)
  • Attend signature College events (e.g. Back to Babson, Babson Connect, Champagne Toast, etc.) Attend events and programs in member region. Attendance at events and programs in other regions is encouraged
  • Take an active role in fundraising campaigns, e.g. Make Your Mark, Barefoot Challenge, etc.
  • Convene and facilitate all BAAB meetings
  • As schedule permits, participate in weekly Advancement Stand Up meetings


Vice Chair, Alumni Engagement

  • Liaise with the Director Regional Programs, Senior Associate Director, Affinity Programs, and Associate Director, Class Engagement in support of regional, affinity, and reunion activities and initiatives as well as Center programs, including but not limited to BASE and BETA Challenge. Specific activities and initiatives may vary year to year or semester to semester
  • Participate in monthly planning meetings with Managing Director, Alumni and Friends Network


Vice Chair, Fundraising:

  • Liaise with the TFFB team and assist with recruiting new Class Agents
  • Take a leadership role in fundraising campaigns, e.g. Make Your Mark, Barefoot Challenge, Days of Giving, etc
  • Report on proposed fundraising activities at BAAB meetings and motivate members of the board to actively participate in campaigns
  • Participate in monthly planning meetings with the Managing Director, The Fund for Babson


Vice Chair, Marketing:

  • Lend marketing expertise to the Advancement Division/Advancement Communications, e.g. Babson website, social media campaigns, alumni communications, times of crisis, #One Babson Day, etc.
  • Report on upcoming College and Advancement marketing initiatives and serve as a resource to other alumni volunteer organizations


Past Chair:

  • Assist with the transition to new volunteer leadership engagement model

The Babson Alumni Advisory Board will hold three meetings per calendar year:

  • September during Back to Babson (attendance in person or WebEx/video chat)
  • January/February: WebEx/video chat (WebEx/video chat)
  • April/May: In person or WebEx/video chat (attendance in person or WebEx/video chat)

 

BAAB members will participate in additional meetings through each calendar year to provide timely feedback on strategic initiatives and to support engagement and participation activities.

The BAA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board strives to:

  • Foster pride in Babson among alumni and other College constituencies
  • Promote a lifelong connection to Babson
  • Energize alumni as volunteers and ambassadors in service to the College

2018-2020 Initiatives

B.E.T.A. Challenge 

Annually, the BAA sponsors the B.E.T.A. Alumni Challenge grand prize through proceeds from the Babson Advantage program. Additionally, BAA Directors aid the Blank Center in recruiting alumni evaluators, who review submissions for the Challenge and/or serve as judges for the Semifinals and Finals.

Through a partnership with Meyer and Associates and Liberty Mutual, the BAA provides alumni with savings on auto, home, life, long term care, pet, small business, travel insurance and more. Proceeds are directed toward student scholarships and programs that engage alumni.

Babson Alumni Supporting Entrepreneurs

The BAA oversees the recruitment of consultants and clients for Babson Alumni Supporting Entrepreneurs (BASE), a complimentary resource which provides virtual and in-person consultations to alumni and students with business questions and challenges.

Coaching for Leadership and Teamwork Program 

The BAA assists with recruiting alumni volunteers to serve as coaches for Babson's award-winning program. Several BAA Directors also serve as volunteers who provide constructive, developmental coaching to undergraduate students.

Graduate Email Ambassador Program 

The BAA aids Graduate Admission recruiting efforts by recruiting One Year and Two Year MBA alumni who graduated within the last five years to reach out to admitted students in these two programs to both congratulate them on their admission and to serve as a resource.

The BAA aids Undergraduate Admission recruiting efforts by recruiting undergraduate alumni who graduated within the last ten years to reach out to admitted first year and transfer students to both congratulate them on their admission and to serve as a resource.
