First-Gen & Limited-Income Network

The FLI Network offers collaborative support, guidance, and tools for those students and families from reduced income backgrounds and those first to attend a 4-year college.

We strive to offer resources and a community in which FLI students and the Babson community can grow and flourish. In collaboration with other Babson College offices and faculty, we envision a campus where all students will thrive in and outside of the classroom.  We encourage all members of the Babson community to celebrate inclusive excellence and belonging and to help drive our campus-wide mission.

Roughly 20 percent of the Babson student population identifies as first generation. First-generation students are students whose parents (adoptive or biological) or legal guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree (whether in the U.S. or abroad).

Our Office’s Mission and Values

First-Generation Sign

Babson College’s FLI Network leads a strategic vision to ensure that those first in their families to attend college and from reduced income backgrounds will succeed in higher education. We do so through community-building, equitable access, and a strengths-based mindset.

Through an intentional network of College offices and faculty, we envision a campus where every student can thrive—academically and personally—regardless of economic background, identity, or family circumstances. This campus commitment will create sustainable systems in accomplishing this vision. Through the FLI Network, Babson College will be an institution where students and their families see their FLI identities as a strength in becoming responsible economic and social stewards.

First-generation and limited-income students bring a wide array of backgrounds and experiences to Babson College. We build community and belonging under the FLI umbrella, fostering an environment where all students can thrive, celebrate their achievements, and fostering growth, resilience, and lifelong success.

FLI students and the Babson campus will have opportunities to engage and reflect on our roles in our communities and how we lift others up in our pursuit towards success. Through collaboration and an entrepreneurial mindset, we address campus and community challenges and explore unique solutions.

Building on the One Babson strategic vision, we recognize that "we achieve more when we move powerfully together." This includes reciprocal engagement and support of our FLI families and community advocates. Student Success does not happen solely within the walls of our institution. We work to build sustainable relationships and development opportunities with our families and advocates in order to develop purpose-driven leaders.
