Special Services Division

The Babson College Investigations Unit is made up of Sworn Law Enforcement Personnel (Detectives) who investigate criminal offenses, college policy violations, and facilitate all court related process. Members of the Investigations unit are mandated to attend a 40-hour investigator school and be trained sexual assault investigators within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Crime Prevention and Community Outreach Unit, better known as our community engagement team, is responsible for all the Public Safety related programming on campus. This unit is also responsible for our Babson Community Dogs (Roger, Gracie, and Hero). This unit hosts puppy palooza, take a break with Babo, Babson Athletics Liaison program, trivia and pizza events, and our self defense and situational awareness classes. This unit provides all the content for and runs the department social media accounts.

The Peer Support and Wellness Unit is responsible for providing our department with the most up to date resources on mental health, wellness, and prevention of stress related incidents. This unit seeks out trainings and conferences that officers can attend to improve their overall wellness. This unit also serves as employee assistance which coordinates meals, rides, and services for those in our agency needing assistance. The peer support and wellness unit is also tasked with organizing agency events, award ceremonies, and outings (softball games, department open house, employee appreciation nights).

Babson College is committed to preventing violence and supporting the safety and well-being of the campus community. Babson College has implemented the Community Threat Assessment Team, a group of coordinated individuals and departments with various expertise to focus on prevention and education surrounding the safety and security of the Babson College campus community.

The Babson College Department of Public Safety has developed its own in-house emergency services unit that is responsible for creating, implementing, updating, and maintaining appropriate plans of action in emergency situations that may arise on campus or property controlled by Babson College. The Emergency Services Unit (ESU) works directly with the Babson College Investigations Unit, Executive Protection Unit, and Emergency Management Division to coordinate response during a critical incident or active emergency to ensure the safest result possible for our community.

Members of this specialized unit take part in additional active attack, breaching, hazmat, firearms, crisis response, crowd management and demonstrations, natural disaster response, close quarters tactics, CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design), tactical emergency casualty care, and bombing prevention. All members also serve as department instructors to better train all of our sworn and non sworn personnel. We aim to follow a multiple discipline approach to make this team as effective and efficient as possible.

The Executive Protection Unit is responsible for all aspects of visiting dignitaries, VIPs, and high-profile special events that Babson College hosts. Our professional Executive Protection Officers work together with other groups and agencies to carry out our mission of preparation, protection, and partnership. This unit is also responsible for overseeing the site security for Babson’s Satellite Locations and overseas operations.

The UAV Unit is responsible for the operation, maintenance, compliance, and flight recording of the (3) unmanned aerial vehicles that our agency owns. These UAVs are utilized for special events, critical incidents on campus, traffic control monitoring, emergency management, potential hazardous scenes, and community engagement. In no way are these UAVs used for surveillance or monitoring of individuals. All our drone pilots are certified with the FAA and have obtained a PART 107 license to operate. The UTV and Bike Unit is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and training associated with our Polaris 1000 UTV and our bicycles used for patrol, special events, and assisting our municipal partners. All sworn officers have attended the Massachusetts Environmental Police Law Enforcement OHV Safety and Responsibility Course. All bike officers must be certified in COBWEB which stands for (Cops on Bikes with Education for Bicyclists) This training conditions officers to react to a wide variety of situations they may face while operating a bicycle. Both the UTV and bicycles are a great way to engage with our community and remain more visible to address concerns or simply stop and chat.

The Honor Guard Unit consists of sworn police officers who represent our agency at functions such as sporting events, parades, official ceremonies, funerals for law enforcement officers and other public officials, and any formal college event. Honor Guard members wear a distinct “Class A” uniform when performing their official duties.
